Comparing apples with apples, here is the Noble One gift pack avec glasses. https://www.vintagecellars.com.au/Red Wine/de-bortoli-noble-one-twin-glasses-gift-pack-375ml_1058345
Makes JK's purchase at Costco Lidcome look good.
And now we know he is from Sydney...you can only hide on AFF for so long jk. ;)
To be fair though, just about everywhere looks good against Vintage Cellars (except perhaps BWS), I NEVER buy there despite there being a number of close shops to me.

I believe McGuigan is a pretty decent winery, and the Handmade Shiraz was sublime. Is it available cheaper elsewhere? :D
McGuigan is a massively over rated winery. Expects people to pay a premium for their wines which just isn't deserved.
Yes but he should be entitled to express his opinion too. Personally I agree with him, though I didn't feel the need to put it in writing when I first saw the post. But yes everyone is entitled to their own tastes, what I disagree on is that if someone has different tastes they should be forced to keep quiet.
burmans I didn't think I posted anywhere that any poster is not entitled to post an opinion - in fact no other poster on AFF has ever posted more than I have about how we are all individuals - we are all see things differently - we all hold different views.

Read closely the quote I have posted from Abha - see where he included an 'I'?

Read closely the response from Ralphy - see there is no 'I', 'Me' or 'Personally'?

Now whilst I do not profess to be a great literary luminary - but I did read Abha's post as a personal opinion and Ralphy's post a statement of fact contradicting that opinion.

FTR - I love Ralphy's post - mainly.

Thanks for that, Ralph. Are you really a doctor? :D

I'm not too bothered that McGuigan's is over-rated - I enjoyed their 2010 Shortlist Cab, which JH scored 94pts. At around 17 bucks a bottle, I didn't think it was particularly dear, but considering the intention of this thread, I thought someone might know where it's available for less.

And to express my opinion I see that as just pedantry, any statement here is a statement of the posters opinion unless he/she offers evidence to support it. You appear to have interpreted Ralphy as intending this as a statement of fact, giving he offers no evidence to support it I personally cant see how it can realistically be interpreted as anything other than an opinion.

I know a few people here who want us to take their opinion as fact (just because they think we should think their views are somehow extra important) but see no reason to take Dr. Ralphs postings as anthing other than opinion. As for those others, I'll keep regarding it as an opinion until you offer some evidence (you know who you are).

FWIW, I tend to agree RE: McGuigan. They quite like De Bortoli.

One or two good wines, but their big expansion as a "house" means wines are often overpriced for what you get.

Thanks for that, Ralph. Are you really a doctor? :D

Do you mean not a doctor as say in a dentist? Or do you mean as in Dr Lindeman, winemaker and surgeon, hence really a Mr? Probably best not to question if we want to keep it nice on AFF. I figure if people on AFF have dr, doc etc in their avatar then that is what they wish to be known as I accept it.

I did not take Ralph's comments as anything other than opinion, perhaps stridently put, but not offensively so. McGuigan's is not one of my go-to wines but then I buy a fair amount of wines I wouldn't normally buy because they come bundled at moderate prices. A good way to try new brands and at 94 pts I'd probably even try a McGuigan. ;)

Definitely. The Handmade Shiraz is over 40 bucks directly from them, and the Shortlist Cab just under $30 per six.

I enjoyed it, and so did JH, apparently :)

Yup. That was largely my reasoning too. The Tempus Two Pewter Shiraz was probably the weak part of the bundle, but still scored a 91. And the missus liked the bottle, so hey :)

And no, I didn't take any offence at the Doc's tone at all, and also assumed he was expressing an opinion. Nothing wrong with that, but I note your caution not to question his choice of username, which FTR was completely without malice.

Never my intention to hide location. If I did I won't leave such easy clues. :D
FYI there are still heaps available.
FYI single not gifted pack same price.

Thanks jk - I'll def head out and grab 1/2 doz - problem is either Docklands / Ringwood 1hr drive - new store at Moorabbin Airport hopefully opening soon as it's like 5 mins from where I live.

Vintage Lager

Anyone heard of vintage lager, bottled as wine and packaged luxuriously and cost as high as premium wine?
An eye opener for me. The Crown Ambassador 2014 Reserve Lager. $80 a bottle.

This has been around for a few years. I've try it and thought it was ok, but didnt justify the price. It doesn't taste like the ubiquitous standard version at all.. DM often discounts it or bundles it with the standard product. Might normally get it for $60.
