Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Merlots don't usually age so well. Less than 10 years I feel. Also heard rumors some might have been sent o/s and returned (not sure how true this is) so better drink earlier than later as maybe heat affected and a bit flat.
I like Clarendon Hill's Merlot better their base range Shiraz, the Shiraz are generally too big for me. I had 13 and 14 Merlot before, they were vey nice. I think 12 is good to go as well.

has anyone here tried the 2012 Clarendon Hills Merlot - that was a DM underwraps last week for $12? I only got 2 and i'm not sure if I should be drinking now or holding a touch longer.
Hi, I just did (I also just bought 2 to try) and immediately jumped on DM site to order a dozen and realised the price gone up to $75 damn it! It is drinkable now but I feel that quite easy be put away for a 3-5 more years. Still a lot of tannin as I am letting it breathe a little. Great drop even though I am not a huge fan of that grape. It is heavier fuller bodied Merlot than usual. Enjoy!

DCB Woori Yallock and Yarra Valley Pinots now part of different drop new release sale $27.20 and $18.70 respectively after 15% auto cart discount.

Draytons Family Bellevue Heritage Grand Reserve Shiraz 2016, 90 for a dozen, down from 1080
Here is another GWD deal, I will pass it this time. too much wine.

Just got this same Secret Cellar offer from Get Wines Direct which is two and a half months later than when Paddywide informed us. 😂😂
Must not be selling well.
Did anyone try it?

Anyone know what this Langtons offer is?

2009 McLaren Vale Syrah would be? Thinking possibly one of the Clarendon Hills, but can’t find which one.

95 points from Halliday, 93 from Lisa Perrotti-Brown

They were selling the '09 Clarendon Liandra for a bit (and both this and the main entry are coming up as out of stock) but the 95JH rating doesn't match for that one (Halliday didn't rate the '09 liandra at all...)

Oh yes, looks like the Hickinbotham. I bought the 2010 a while back. Not as good as I'd hoped for the price ($50 each), but got a bonus 2008 Astralis with it.

I got my bud level cellardoor pack today :
St Hubert Cabernet Merlot
821 South Sauvignon Blanc

I somehow landed up with a 2012 of the St Hubert in my cellar. I cracked it a few months ago and was also very happily surprised with it. A rather decent wine.

Thanks for letting us know - I bought 18 but am yet to try.
As requested, Wickad.
Early reports:
1. Austins - thumbs up. But need to like whole bunch characters - cloves, beetroot. Lovely Pinot.
2. Miceli - for all the mixed reviews, it appeals to my dinosaur taste in Chardonnay. Lots of stewed stone fruit and oak.
3. Jellicoe - needs a good sleep. Bought after trying 2010 vintage recently. Potential is obvious though.
4. Kangarilla Rd Sangiovese '16 (not in pic) - surprise package. Simply lovely w Xmas cake on back palate.

Will report once I get to Forest Hill and Merite.
Cheers :)
I enjoyed the Austin's (ruby pinot) - it is a nice pinot - probably the best of the lot so far. Smelled a bit like fuel though.
I was a little disappointed in some of these recent $9 in any six ($54 for 6). Part of me thinks they had a 'purposeful price error' to get rid of stock.

Forest Hill Block 5
Shottesrooke Proprietor
Willoughby Park Ironrock

I'd love some opinions on the Shottesbrooke Proprietor Cab Sav if anyone grabbed some - had one two nights ago and finished the half last night and it wasn't really pleasant - not that I'd return it for $9 but it went into the pasta.

What was wrong with the block 5?

Thanks for letting us know - I bought 18 but am yet to try.

Cheers :)

I can help you w Block 5, but not the other two as I didn't get any Proprietor or Ironrock.
I thought Block 5 was exceptional. Besides the regular Cab characteristics of
lovely cassis and cigar box, its two main distinguishing features r concentration and Lapsang Souchong tea flavour (i.e. burnt rubber like). Beautiful wine now w much improvement still ahead.

For completeness, Merite was mediocre. I was intrigued by the unusual blend. But I believe it has good ageing potential. Will revisit in couple of years.

I ended up with the Shottesbrooke 2012 Single Vineyard Shiraz. Opened one the other night and it was very good, probably getting to the end of it's life though. I also had the Rose Kentish 2014 Old Vine Shiraz Cabernet arrive today, popped a bottle and immediately ordered 6 more. At under $15 (seems to be location dependent) it's a steal. Mine were under cork and all were missing the top seal, so that may have something to do with the price.
