Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Thank you AnonymousCoward, I have already bought an Elderton Command 2005 from Langton's and keeping it in my cellar! I would like to try the Glaetzer but never see any good deal.

AC persuaded me to try the Elderton Command based on his tasting notes posted to the Nice Wines thread. And I too picked up the 2005 from Langtons as a result. It was absolutely stunning. In fact, I posted a note on Vivino to say it was the best Shiraz I had tasted recently. Not sure of your taste preference, but, for me, it's drinking amazingly well now. One of the top 15 Vivino posters also had the 2005 and gave it a massive 5 stars (he picked his up from Dan's many years ago). It's a massive wine, so it will hold up well for many years. But, at present, I just love the primary and secondary characteristics that are currently playing out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when you do open it.

The 2005 is scoring well on CellarTracker as well - 128 reviews, and it has an average score of 94.0, which is high (IME) for CT: https://www.cellartracker.com/wine....3DW525003_8_K571c8d94391ae2916416ace6eafd18d7

I intended to keep it for special occasion. I haven't read any comment before I bought it. I just saw a promotion from Langton's in the email giving a good discount compare to DM.

Well either way its a bit of a secret.

No. They are very different offerings.

Hidden labels are effectively clean skins.

Secret label means you get the real wine, with the real label. There effectively is no secret.

Most people would prefer the secret label - price being equal.

Glad Kemeny's are doing Secret Label stuff now, there's something I just don't like about their Hidden Labels staring at me from the racks..

Assuming they are the same price, I completely understand.

In the past I have been a big fan of their hidden labels as they have been very reasonably priced compared to the labelled offerings.

I wonder if we'll ever see an instance of a secret and hidden label of the same wine. Would be interesting to see the value they think people would place on having the 'right' label on the wine.

And interesting to think how much I value it!

Yes I understand. But either way you need to work out what they are, just one with a real label.

WineMarket recently (may still) had it and the 2013 as a Mystery wines for $13.75. Which ends up at $11 when the 20%off coupons come around.

Funny that you should bring this up while the Gemtree Uncut 2012 is under discussion. At least according to Cracka marketing that I saw at one point, this is the same as the "SacredTree Classic Vine Shiraz 2012" (note, not the "Select Vines" one, which I assume is more along the lines of the Dragon's Blood) -- which to me is almost the same as a secret label. Supposedly it's the label for export, but who can say. If you get any other vintage, do you know whether it's the same as that year's Uncut? Hmm. It is, however, still more presentable e.g. as a gift.

Either way, I wonder how many gazillions of bottles they managed to produce of the 2012 Uncut. It just seems to keep flowing in these offers. (To me that's a good thing, as it's a lovely wine for its price point.)

Any thoughts on this 6 pack from Winedirect?

No One Will Order This

Am a fan of both Grenache and Malbec (and Zonte's Footstep in general).

The variety here is supurb for something a "bit different", which is what you can also say about the seventy dollar grenache's website. Very odd indeed. Seventy bucks a bottle ''hmm. Maybe the original author of the WD title will be correct.

Just received this latest email from United Cellars. Looks interesting.
"Gee, this is a high quality wine for $25... the best Crudo Shiraz to date."
