Given 2018 vintage of 389 is one of the better ones, I would say $65 -$70 would a good value. Given it's iconic appeal and collectability, it'also have some investment merit so it's value is generally underpinned.

Not tempting to me. BIN 389 often available for $65 or under.

My bad, I thought you asked re bin 389. For Bin 28 2018 vintage $25-$30 I would consider a good value.

I am as up with dissing Penfolds since TWE took over as anyone and their RRP pricing has been way over the top for a long time but, seriously, the Bin 389 is a very good wine. You may be able to find a better wine for $60 to drink tonight but the 389 has great staying power and will be very good for a long time. If you like aged red then $75 is OK for a 389 IMO. If you don't want to pay $75 for a red then just drop down the ladder but if you are waiting for $65 for bin 389 I don't think you'll get it. TWE are bleeding from the Chinese tariff but they restrict discounting.

As for the bin 28 - at $20 it would be an excellend value buy. It's easily worth $25+. Sometimes I think some of us measure worth by the lowest price once paid.

Currently $35 at Dans. So perhaps a good price is $25. Reasonable? That's up to you.

Agree with this 100%. I would say the Bin 28 is 'worth' $25-30. Its 'price' has occasionally been down to $20 however. But this doesn't necessarily reduce its worth.

Interesting because the prices quoted here are far below cost price of what a huge retailer like Dan's or First Choice would even buy at.

Just for the record I bought 3 bottles of Bin 28 2018 vintage for $85 from Liquorland earlier this year (after cashback) that I was pretty happy about.

Although it's 6 bottles of Max's, not 5. So if Bin 389 were $65, then Max's would be $19pb. If Bin 389 were $75 (which I would happily pay) then Max's is $17.5pb, which I think is a great deal. Particularly if you get the shiraz-cab that Dan's don't sell. Max's is a great bottle to bring or gift too, because it has the Penfolds prestige without the high price. That's just my view.

I have enjoyed the few Max’s Chardonnay I’ve had - I can see $20 being fair value for it. I didn’t think much of the Max’s reds I have had - neither were Shiraz-cab though.

Just on the Max/389 deal, I got the same email and wasn't interested. I haven't had the Max's Chardy but the reds are just average wines at best to my taste so relative price isn't relevant for me. If you have liked the Max's then maybe the pricing is OK but tread carefully if you haven't tried it and are punting the brand.
