Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I am tempted by the Teusner but having to drive ~35 mins I'm not sure if its a bargain anymore. I wish lucluc was around to offer his services

That was a 1 off, and it was a wine I really wanted. I probably would of paid a courier $10, if it was available.

35min drive is peanuts, just depends how much you want it. :)

That is the reason I am cancelling now my order of 5 Pierro CabMerlot ltcf in a Bass Hill store in case anyone wants them on special

The only reason I ordered Teusner was because it was in Glebe and I will swing by the fishmarket nearby to get some wagyu steaks from Vic to pair with the wine

I probably would of paid a courier $10

Wow - big spender!!

Having one tonight. Did anyone else feel it tasted pruney? mmm definitely prune. Not enjoyable at all. Sink juice. Gave it a couple hours decant, didn't get at all in my eyes. First GWD purchase for me, may be the last.
Obviously taste's vary but there seem quite disparate views on here from those that have tried it. I got fruit but not to the extend of prune or anything jammy. I got a drying tannan element on the back pallet which I expected. It seemed to me to be a Signature but not 100% up to normal standard which I expected as a cleanskin/failed Chinese export. My wife liked it. Maybe our bottles were better than others? Maybe there's bottle variation and that's why they are really selling as cleanskins - heat affected perhaps? Colour and pallet didn't indicate heat damage to me but maybe some have been?

All I can say is I got what I paid for at the very least and I'll see how they develop over some time in the cellar.

Just noticed that Wynns BL on Boozebud has now been jacked up to $38 consistent with all other retailers. Looks like this is the new baseline for the wine moving forward.
$27, $29.90, $29.99, $31.35, $32.95 :)

so it was cheap and heavily discounted, but do you like it, is there any benefit to you buying it - if not, then there's no value, it's not a bargain for you
To be fair, if something is deeply discounted you could probably derive at least some value by gaining a new tasting experience without having much financial impact.
absolutely, of course
I think it's a hard balance to strike trying to gain more experience/knowledge while limiting spending (given you don't know what you don't know - so you really need to taste to rectify that).
true, hence my suggestion:
if you don't want to try different varieties each month, but instead focus on one, such as pinot noir, then each month for your six-pack, buy/drink three wines each from two different areas - for example, Yarra Valley & Burgundy, Mornington Peninsula & Central Otago, Tasmania & Adelaide Hills

if the only wines you buy each month are for these six packs, to explore and discover what you prefer, then you should hopefully have saved more money than otherwise, to be better spent later after you've done this research

There's till 8 bottles left at Kingston ACT at this price.
I just picked up my 6 (2017 vintage) and there's three bottles in the shop at $39.30 but the website shows 2 only at $28. It's possible one one was purchased on my 10min drive home, but just like life, it really is a box of choklits.....

I'm pretty sure the website is coded to show 1 less than actual inventory

DM probably price beating Amazon. Has been $50.94 there for some time, less with discount egift, and free postage with prime. Vintage not garanteed at either shop though i suppose.
2017 confirmed at Dan's on Winefront - 2016 (JH97, HH/RJ96, JO94, GW93) stated on Amazon without vintage disclaimer, free delivery also without prime

Seems the same with Eddystone Point Pinot Noir in stock at Amazon still at $21.16
on clearance for $19 at BWS

Mentioned this earlier this week when it was $89 per 6. Now reduced to $12ea or $72/6 with the following comment in the DM narrative -

"A special blend, produced, in collaboration, by the excellent winemaking talent of Wild Duck Creek and Whistling Eagle. Boasting all of the rich, supple fruit expected of the fabulous Heathcote region, this lavish red is smothered in languid, smooth, warming, deeply flavoured dark fruit, charcuterie, chocolate earthy tannins and vanilla, with a beguiling, exotic spice finish."

Looks good, though I love the review on dans. Screenshot_20210522-101045_Chrome.jpg
I think most wines would taste good after 5 bottles!
