Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Interesting - 2013 says Medium term cellaring (up to 7 years) and 2015 says Long term cellaring (7 years or more)

I went back 5 years on the forum, cheapest with discounts I saw was $73-75 5 years ago, and $99.

Everyone jumped on Moss Wood 2012 here, but no one said a word about 2011 for $20 more. You could say certain vintages hold more value, or simply it's gone up in time.

$55 is a great price, I'm sure if they popped up everyone would jump on that. But, we can't really compare a deal years ago to what's available today.
I don't exactly know what you're trying to argue here. I'm not paying $199, I've paid $100 for a 15 year old wine I want to drink soon. I don't have a time machine, if so I'd happily buy it for $55.
Used cars are 20% more expensive, property has jumped 20% this year...I mean even aged wine goes up in value.

Just remember everyday at auction, or in store people pay over $150 for Basket Press and it's $75 as a member. You win some, you lose some.
Good pick up lucluc, I bought some to reminisce about a wine that is no longer a lineage wine for me (used to try and buy a few each vintage). I think those with longer memories reflect sadly on the time when it could be obtained much cheaper, not to criticise the deal at hand.

Incidentally Seppelts St Peter is a cracking wine at $55 and very comparable to the Ghiran.

Looks like 2013 is not available (to me anyway)
Varies store by store in Melbourne. The 13 and 15 get different ratings at different places so hard to tell which is better. I'm now looking for a 14 and 16 to go on sale so I can have my 6 year vertical tasting sorted (already have 17 and 18 from deals at cellardoor.co).

So I severely failed my "no-buy/dry July" attempt this month but had an interesting experience today. The BWS drop to 50% included some Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet blend in a couple of local stores but it was showing as no stock. I thought I'd try calling and the person that answered said sure, we have one on the shelf but it's not on sale. Since the tickets aren't always marked it was worth a trip to the store. While I was there I had a look around, and there were a few random bottles of good stuff that I knew was on sale, on odd shelves/where they shouldn't be located. So I picked them up and took them to the register...they all scanned at 50% off and the guy behind the counter had that look of disappointment of "how did you find these?" :) Ended up with a Cirillo 1850 Grenache, Saltram No.1 plus the Amelia, 2013-2014 vintages.
