2011 was a pretty tough (cold, wet, disease) vintage all through South Australia, 6/10 for reds in Coonawarra on the Halliday Vintage Chart.

Agree. And an average to bad vintage. Some good 2011's out there. But so much that is potentially better as well.

I have had a few of the Reschke 2011 from empyrean and Bos. Not this one though and I find it quite good.

Thanks. i just checked what I had it was actually different vintage. The 2011 is the vitulus!
Oh well. Hopefully the bull is not that bad. I'll let you guys know once i try them

Picked up 3 bottles each of the 2016 & 2019 Penfolds Bin 28 with first choice yesterday during the CB offer. With the special FirstChoice had ($33.25 in any 6) - $10 first time buy - CB ($25) reckon I got them down to bout $27 per bottle...plus I believe there was some Flybuys offer as well. Quite happy with that. Works out to be about 50% RRP (not that I would ever pay that)

$5 pinot. Anyone tried it? Often I find with cheaper pinots they are incredibly sweet to make up for a lack of any depth of flavor. Without wanting to sound like a snob I struggle to hit the mark with anything much under $20...Central Otago is certainly my favourite region though!

I bought the Chalkboard Pinot for $5 earlier this year. It's OK. I often use it as part of a slow cook base for meats and drink the last glass in the bottle.

If you're thinking this is an amazing bargain then I'd say you'll be disappointed. At regular RRP this would probably be in the $10 to $15 range. And to be honest probably closer to $10 than $15.

It's definitely not bad and is certainly drinkable. But to be clear, this is a low end drinking wine. But for $5 you wont be pouring it down the sink (unless you are an utter wine snob), but I wouldn't be taking it to a dinner party or bringing it out for guests (well maybe for people you don't like much).

I don't think it's a very good wine to be honest, no matter the price. I gave some bottles away to friends who drink cheaper wines, and they didn't enjoy it.

Someone posted Louis Dr Camponac Pinot at FC for $8 down from $14 and it seems to have better reviews if that's your budget.

Pinot noir is the grape that is least likely to be decent quality if a cheap price.

It's a tricky proposition even at higher prices, so at lower prices, you're better off making your savings via easy to grow stuff like Chardonnay or South Australian Shiraz. And pay up when you need a good pinot noir.
