Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Ditto

I had Bethany GR Shiraz 2018 that I bought via Vinomofo earlier this year. Missed a mark for me and It went back (thank you VM for an easy return policy).

it exhibited harsh and coarse characteristics, almost astringent overly dry taste in my mouth that led to an abrupt finish. Not sure if I was unlucky to come across a bad bottle, but it definitely wasn’t corked – the cork was in a very good condition (see the photo below).

The feeling I got was different to a typically young high tannin red wine taste – I doubt it would improve with age.

Also had this Bethany Grenache that Dan Murphy flogged last year for $6 or $9 in that crazy sale, was sub par too.
I have the 2017 Bethany GR, at the time for around $50. I wasn't planning to drink them for a while. I'm not sure if 17" or 18" was a better year.
I do wonder if you got unlucky, it has pretty solid feedback from reviewers via Vivino. I mean I actually read the reviews, most seem from experienced wine drinkers than casuals.

How much wine do people return to VM? I'm curious, simply because it seems very easy to order more than you want and just drink a few bottles and return. A bit try before you buy in a sense. I would never, but unfortunately people do.

I wonder if at some point, they'll change the policy. It's very solid!

Dan's may be getting me back. Liquorland's online 10% off and free postage fathers day has not arrived 13 days later, and picked 10 days later! No apologies or explanation. Liquorland HQ is mess and their online ops are in chaos!

BTW I cut myself on a broken wine bottle. The ones at Aldi seem to have even thinner glass walls, and a French one even thinner. You can see parallel lines as if joined from 2 halves. There is some high tech going on, and they are more brittle than ever.

I ended up with 6x ‘19 Hartog’s Plate Cab Merlot……
Sadly that's what I got too ("Wynn's Mystery Red"). Sells for ~$7 a bottle so it's like they're advertising how cough some Treasury Wine Estate wines can be. Cellar Door really has lowered the bar to all time lows since introducing tiers. Doubt I'm going to give their Cellar Door site much more of my attention or $$.

I choose carefully but still return the odd case, and it's always been very simple compared to others (no label to print, just register return, seal up box and leave on step). It is though, still a sufficient hassle that I can imagine there'd be very few who actually game the system. That said, I expect it probably throws up a flag if it looks like someone is using it to get a half bottle free from each order... Interested to know if anyone has ever had VM baulk at a return.

I've certainly never had an issue with returns (other than couriers being lackadaisical at picking up back in the early days), I've spoken to a customer representative regarding rorting the system and they are totally aware of the situation. They do look at order histories but you would have to be returning large quantities every year to raise any flags, they actually urged me to try a second bottle from a case of twelve just to make sure that I really didn't like it (policy is a bottle from every six or two from every dozen with no questions asked)....

The Wine Collective talking a big game last few days about their Legends of Wine Week - 8 days, 8 iconic regions, 8 legendary SMS deals..

I’m not sure if I’m expecting to be disappointed by the offers or disappointed by the fact that my money is gone.

Anyone else vaguely interested to see what comes out on offer?

I find them really hit & miss.

They do at times do some solid deals, and they sell extremely fast.

in case you're interested but unaware, 2019 is being hailed as one of the greatest ever for German rieslings, more so than the lauded 2015 - like their Australian counterpart, they can be a bargain compared with other wines/varieties, especially at entry level

Waters Wine had their JJ Prum pre-arrival last month, though The Wine Collective prices seem comparable after 8.8% Cashrewards and $10/$20 voucher, but their Clemens Busch offer is open until today, with single bottles cheaper than Wine Decoded's, which is worth reading for their usual detailed notes and available until this Thursday

Randall's have released their Von Hovel offer, which they import through Heart & Soil, as well as pre-arrival Max Ferdinand Richter

  • 2019 Julian Haart Piesporter Goldtropfchen Kabinett - JS(SP)95 - $80 @ Waters Wine
  • 2019 Muller-Catoir Burgergarten Riesling - JS(SP)96, WA(SR)91-92 - $85 @ Different Drop (referrals)

Definitely honoured. Took delivery of 120 bottles today at an average of about $3.05 a bottle.
I have the opposite of this 'Oenophobia' and need help! ?

It looks like they might relate to wines already available on TWC.
Eg:
- Sub $100 Grand Cru = La Chablisienne
- 100 point NZ = Kumeu River
Unless they are offering sharper prices it is possibly just pure marketing

First day is a little underwhelming

I was particularly intrigued by this line: "A chance to secure the James Halliday Wine of the Year before anyone else".. and then I realised that I'd already purchased some of the YY Red #1, so couldn't be that. So, I suspect they'll have a seppeltsfield 100yr old para there or something. Technically it scores 100 points every year which was higher than the YY despite it winning WotY

Always hopeful with these TWC promotions, but never match up to what MWG used to have. My spend with them has plummeted =/

The Fo return policy is their marketing genius. I remember speaking with them on a vary rare phone call and inquired how many cases I had bought and how many I had returnded. I never went for the second bottle in a dozen trial. If the first wasn't any good, the second wasn't either. This may have been upto December 2019, and the answer was 6 returns. Is that all I thought. But how many cases did i order. How could I forget the answer. 99. Great percentages back in the day.
