Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

The only reason I persist is there are a few offers worth pursuing and some of them work using the Gift or Split Order workarounds. It helps if you have addresses in multiple states/regions to get stock availability in the first place and then try the workarounds.
I agree - I have bought a few bargains from Dan's (thanks largely to some members of this thread) that kind-of make it worthwhile. Clearly I am a beginner in that I have yet to figure out workarounds that don't wind up either costing a heap more or losing me friends in other states.

I'd rather deal with Dan's than the debacle that is Vintage Cellars
I hadn't bought from VC for years, but recent deals worked out pretty well:
Black Chook Sparkling Shiraz NV $9.50pb
Jansz Vintage Rosé 2017 at under $25, the price of the NV. They delivered 6 NV initially and when I asked for what I had ordered they delivered the vintage and let me keep the 6 NV for free. And they didn't wake up to their mistaken price for another two weeks, but I didn't go back for more.

So funny, I read all these complaints about Dan's and wonder what you guys are going on about. Then I go to order the 12 bottles of member special in my trolley that aren't available for pickup but I can select delivery no probs. Go right through checkout and suddenly - 9 of the 12 aren't available! WTF!!! So dumb

VC is just incredibly disorganised and sometimes you get the better end of it.

Multiple times I'd have orders placed, get a notification for pickup only to be told in-store that the item is out of stock.

I don’t mind disorganised wine merchants, in fact most of the online ones are exactly that from my experience. You will lose on an order here and there but their incompetence will guarantee to benefit customers in the long run ;)

TWC "Biggest Mystery Wine of 2021" (hohum) appears to be Thorn-Clark 2017 Ron Thorn Shiraz.

Critic descriptions seem strangely backhanded in their compliments. In any case, not really a style of wine I think I would like - although may be up the alley of those who like a very punchy red in the old Barossan style.
The Shotfire Quartage used to be an absolute stunning wine at a decent price that i always bought about 6 to 10 years ago but I tried one recently, maybe an '18 or ,19 and it was garbage. So ended my affair with the thorn Clarke stable.

Dan’s has both the Monterra and Remarkable Estate sparkling shiraz back at 6 for $60. My dilemma is that I have already bought the Monterra and deciding whether to cancel/swap or grab another 6 of the other.

Grab both, similar quality, slightly different styles. I've bought 3 dozen of the Remarkable State SS for myself and friends a dozen of the Monterra.

My last purchase before my now 'wagered, punted, bet, can't buy another wine till july 1 2022" bet with a friend was another Grays effort. The Byron and Harold Rose and Thorn Savvy B 2018. Landed it for $44, but nett $64.24 a case for 12 delivered. Damn fine drop. Not acidic and cats pithy as we know but a wholesome, medium to full flavoured morsel. Very impressed, and great summer timing. That's a very impressive $5.35 a bot thankyou very much. But the question has to be asked. Is this savvy b at a fiver better dollar for dollar than the remarkables sparking shiraz at $10.75 if you had 12 delivered? Fair question i would think and my answer is that there is no surprise someone with a more educated and refined palate than myself bought three dozen for himself. SS by a knockout. However, if the SS was not a tenner but a sixteen bucker, the savvy b wins. Reminds me of that saying, a man has his price. Happy imbibing people.

Difficult to compare 2 completely different wines

I bought both and as @redbigot said they are of similar quality but slightly different. I think Monterra felt tad sweeter if I had to split hairs.
My advise to buy both if the price is the same just to have some variety.
