Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

From AFR:
Coles will permanently retire the Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor Market chains after a successful four-month trial of rolling out the Liquorland brand to other parts of its alcohol retailing business... Next month, it will begin to roll out the branding to its 984 stores, renaming Vintage Cellars and First Choice as Liquorland Cellars and Liquorland Warehouse, respectively... About 160 Vintage Cellars and First Choice stores will be revamped this year. Liquorland Cellars will target upmarket shoppers, while Liquorland Warehouse will be the largest format carrying the broadest range. The stand-alone Liquorland brand will remain a convenience offering.

So same s**t, different label.

Anyone got an idea what this one might be?

I can't match up an EL 95pt on wine companion for the 2019 with a 93 Real Review for the 2018 and a $60 rrp.

But I am bad at this...
Didn't think EL wrote for Wine Companion so this could be throwing it.

Balnaves CS '19 got 95pts by JF in WC and '18 got 93pts RR. Price doesn't match the "rrp" (not that I trust rrps these days). That's my guess.

I think it's the Jim Barry First Eleven Cab Sav... hence the little clue at the end of the blurb, "it's just not cricket".
Erin Larkin has a matching 95pt review for the 2019 First Eleven on Wine Companion, and there is a matching 93pt Ralph Kyte-Powell review for 2018 on TRR (have to search for First XI).

As a Test tragic, I've got to tell you, it's a pleasure to be faced with so many cricketing references. Fruit from the Penola Cricket Ground vineyard, matured for 12 months in French oak. There is a highly attractive, pure core of fruit on the mid palate (cassis, blackberry and blood plum swirl in a vortex of flavour here), cloistered by savoury, exotically spiced tannins. The length of flavour too, is admirable, providing ample opportunity for more flavours to emerge. The fine tannins that shape this elegant wine are a highlight; chalky, shapely and a little bit chewy (good). 95pts

That's interesting. Thanks for the update.

They're not closing down but I wonder how much sales have been affected by the decision to back out of the cashback schemes? I buy a carton of beer monthly for the office. FC used to be my go to, timed for the cashback offers and often stacked with a flybuys offer. Sometimes I'd add a bottle of wine or spirits for home to hit a spend threshold or jack up the cashback.

I haven't set foot inside a FC since they stopped with cashbacks and BWS has been getting my biz. I did go into a VC to get CMGCs in an Amex deal though.
