As someone who got status matched Silver, am in the process of flying both Virgin and Qantas to see if I may jump ship!
I regularly fly BNE-CBR and BNE-MEL and most times will be on the flexi fare.
I think that it is fantastic that VA are now offering food as part of the flexi fare, and certainly is swinging me towards solely flying Virgin (because the rest of the experience so far has been excellent!), but the bad thing is that I always get the same thing to eat ...

... That Luke Mangan beef and cheese wrap!!!

Each time I've had that wrap, my tastebuds have been wanting that lovely smelling Meat Pie I see others eating.

Minor gripe I know, but some variety in the flexi fare menu would be greatly appreciated.

(Kudos for the Lindt chocolate though! And a decent size too, unlike the tiny QF Toblerone!!)

Somehow managed to score the (vegetarian) Mangan pie on OOL-MEL (despite it being under the 2 hour limit), and I have to say that VA should really try to bring the rest of its offerings up to that standard - it was pretty outstanding, and absolutely towered over the rather bland Mangan pastrami sandwich offered on the way up.

I have always been offered the "pie" on my weekly OOL-MEL-OOL runs.

BTW, Platinum status matched in September, will requalify for Platinum with VA by 31 December. What more is there to aspire to?

Yeah I am sick of "The Traveller". What gets me is that it comes with a complimentary Crown Larger, however I can't not swap a crownie for a Pepsi max!

I've tried giving away the wrap to fellow travellers, without success. Perhaps they're flying on saver fares just to avoid the wrap?

Hey it's better than being a Gluten Free Vegetarian, never get anythiing I can eat on my Flexi.

TG

Well funny enough, I can now report that I was not served a wrap on the 3pm MEL-SYD today.

I and all other flexi fare pax received a ham cheese and tomato sandwich. I also got a complimentary soft drink, which now has been included in the flexi fare.

:) nice, thanks for the report. AFFers RULE!

I know we all LOL @ at the wrap, but trust me, it is ALOT better than the tomato salsa and 2 wholemeal crackers you get on Qantas for lunch.

The portion is the same as those cheese dips that you pack for kids snacks for recess.

So i'll take the ham and cheese sandwich anyway :)

I wish I got that much.

LOL I got it from MELB-SYD-MELB and ADL-MEL on lunchtime-4pm flights.

Yes that was about afew months ago. don't tell me Qantas has cut the tomato salsa + 2 crackers from lunch because of cost savings?!

As of this week, a non alcoholic beverage such as soft drink, can be requested from the service cart, when traveling on a flexi fare, regardless of the time of day.

Also i think the current flexi lunch offering between 10am-4pm is the ham and cheese deluxe and after 4pm it is the wrap

A 'gourmet ham and cheese sandwhich'. God, it's not exactly fine cuisine is it? I would rather fly on a saver fare and spend the $50 - $80 fare difference having a decent meal at the airport (or even paying a single entry lounge pass) than buying a flexi just for the pleasure of being served a 'gourmet ham and cheese sandwhich' and a mini bottle of water.

OOL-SYD in PE the other day and the options for a hearty breakfast were the sandwich or the wrap.

I went for the wrap and it was like eating cardboard.

VA really need some breakfast options.

At least they were listeria free ;)

I never quite understood the difference between gourmet sandwiches and normal sandwiches. Does the ham and cheese taste different in the gourmet sandwich?
