Decent SR run out of RNO

I'm going to be flying RNO-ASE in early Feb 13. I will also be within 100SC striking distant of SG. I'm trying to work out whether its worth trying to get it, as I've heard the USA is a good place for SRs. Any thoughts on how best to do this?

My renewal date is in September - so assuming I got SG in Feb, how long would I keep my SG for?

Cheers!

Your question is confusing given your thread title.

Are you exe RNO, SAN or ASE?

sorry, hit the button too soon and had to go back and edit.

ex RNO.

Or, are you flying from RNO to ASE & wish for ideas on maximising SC earn for that travel?

I am flying RNO-ASE (not directly). But the day that I fly I have literally no where to be (as long as I end in ASE) and am trying to work out the best SR strategy.

The bad news is that Aspen ain't a cheap destination in any cabin.

The [perhaps] good news is that if you have $1100 to spend you can travel via DFW in First class for USD1072 and earn 210 SC's. (In economy $496 for 35SC's)

With everything I have looked at, that's the most $/SC efficient way to do it. Other options such as economy on part of the journey end up costing more. (e.g. DFW-ASE is $535, more than from RNO).

Yeh thats what I came up with as well. From what I've read, $5.20/SC is not particularly good value. I also stuffed up and I realise now that I'm 300 SC away from Gold, which would mean a very expensive SR.

I think I'll languish at Silver...

If you can find an extra ½ to 1 day for travel you can go RNO-//-SJU and earn 280 SCs for USD598 and the next day go SJU-//-ASE for USD673 and earn a further 240 SC's.

That 520 SC for USD1271 - closer to $2½ per SC.

Its very tempting. But what I can't work out is why flying to SJU makes the whole ordeal so much cheaper. I don't need anything over ~320SC out of this run. But when I try to just put in RNO-//-MIA MIA-//-ASE the fare shoots up by hundreds of dollars. Am I going about this the wrong way?

No you are not doing it the wrong way.

For the MIA price difference you may like to research "Hidden City Ticketing".

It's to do with "markets" and at the moment SJU is cheap in First/Business for instant upgrade fares class. This can be due to many reasons, some of which are competition, lack of premium sales for the Peurto Rico and a bit of both.

You might like to look at the costs of doing it one way in first/business and the other in economy. I could not find it much cheaper and SC earning was a lot less (indeed could not get the level you are after).
