Delay in Citi Select Rewards Point Posting

I am a tad under 200,000 points short as a result of Citibank stopping paying on ATO bills without telling anyone that they were going to make a change.
Citibank really should have told us to take that business elsewhere and their silence confirms my view that they are fringe dwellers in the marketplace in Australia. Their lack of courtesy in not telling us is shameful.
I feel lucky that it was a small ATO month and most of the payments did not go to this card.
Plan B is now ready as I kept second ranking cards alive while Citibank held a leading position up to the end of February 2013.

Yikes I just got a Signature Card. Why do credit card programs always get enhanced shortly after I join them? :( :p Then again if it's always been in the T&Cs I suppose they're not technically required to provide notice.

I've never normally paid much to ATO as I tend to get refunds rather than owe tax but it looks like we may have to pay some taxes on our investment property this FY. The earn rate on my Westpac SQ AMEX is higher but I was hoping to avoid the higher fee and with at least 1:1 earn.

Wow, so it was a small month, most of the payments didn't go to the Citibank card and you are still down almost 200,000 points....

That sucks, and I apologise in advance for how this is going to sound, but the phrase "Suck it up Princess" comes to mind.

How many points have you earned from business ATO spend through personal Citibank cards, before they decided to enforce their existing T&C's?

As you said you have your plan B ready and waiting, chin up and be sure to post good it is traveling up front on your next point procured flight.

I posted this to help other AFF members not get caught out.
That points amount lost is ok as the cash wasted was only about $700 so it could have been far worse.
Have sucked it up and the game continues Hammando.

I don't see anything in cove's post which justifies this sort of response. No whinging certainly, just an expression of an entirely reasonable opinion that Citi should have notified their customers of this change. It's in their T&Cs, sure, but when you don't enforce something it does establish a reasonable expectation that non-enforcement will continue amongst your customers - particularly amongst those who weren't even aware of the restriction in the first place (not cove clearly - just in general).

Or, the short version: jealousy is not an appealing quality.

+1 on this, cove has been incredibly helful to many people with his advice on how to get points on ATO spend. This just comes across as sourgrapes in that context.

TBH, I'm NOT sure it is in their terms and conditions per se.
For example, as some have mentioned, how is paying personal income tax prohibited by Citi? Its those who have used it to pay the ATO for business purposes that have ruined it for everyone else :)
So someone should take the fight to Citi.

A phrase we use around the office, perhaps it has more cut to it than intended.

In any case loopholes close, we move on and look for the next one.

First steps indeed have been taken - not sure it will be a fight - but I am Citigold and will definitely be closing ALL accounts other than Select CC and parking funds elsewhere if indeed this is the case.

Will post progress as process unfolds.

Ouch! Think that's a bit rough. Cove, or Sir Cove as I reckon he could be anointed by some, is a legend around these parts. Always helpful, never critical... So suggest we watch those sorts of comments.

Looking at that post by Hamnando in a benign manner, it could be just that the language was rather intemperate to most of us but could conceivably be consistent with a younger / more irreverent type of person who had not realized Cove's quality contributions and his gentleman's manner in his discourse on AFF.

Of course it should not be written in that manner but we should give H some space by now.

For the records, Cove is one of my top tutors in all things financial !

Yes, I think probably we all got way more upset than Cove himself did!

Citi Select 28 Feb to ATO - points posted normally
Citi Signature 20 Mar to ATO - no points
Looks like the good times are over. (Have put on my tiara and am imbibing furiously, Hammando!)
Am on CR, Select for 2 yrs, signature 6 years.
Seems I'll be closing Citigold and finding a new home for savings!!

I must apologise to all Select cardholders for this change. I just received a rather large personal tax bill that was planned to be paid with this card. Clearly this is the reason for Citi's change of heart on awarding points for ATO payments.

Without hijacking this thread, any suggestions for an alternative that will earn more than AMEX 0.5pts/$? Mainly interested in converting to Kris flyer points.

Maybe this (atm there is no points earn cap):
Singapore Airlines Platinum - Rewards Credit Card | Westpac

Westpac PlatinumPlus Altitude Amex allows you to wharehouse the points which are made at 1.5 points per dollar (up to June16th) so the 3 year expiry clock is delayed from starting with Kris Flyer.
The direct point transfer card is the one kpc has listed for you and that works sweetly up to June 16th.

Sorry Cove I was under the impression the SQ westpac card was not getting capped in June like the others that are being "enhanced". I do not have one,but I was contemplating it as a "plan B" pending the Tand C's on the Black card, so I have not received any paper work but do you have some other info regarding this?

Cheers Danger UXB
