Denali Demo and Rebuild

Yesterday bricks were delivered but brickies can't start until windows are in and they arrived a couple of days ago but are sitting in our garage so this is the wait patiently lesson part of the build. Our SS knows they're not in but I don't want to hassle him this early in the build so giving him space to do his job.

We're going with PGH sculpted grey because I'm not a fan of the dark bricks that seem to be popular these days. Having lived in dark and dreary for 25yrs, I wanted light. Hubby picked them because he really likes the look of the bricks, not being perfect as they have a texture on the face. Part of our facade will be rendered/painted and if the next owners dont like them, we dont care 😁

This morning, Saturday, our tradies came in super early and knocked this over in about two hours.

Things that surprise me; how big the windows are over the ensuite toilet and bathroom tub so will have to do something for privacy later, how high the window is above the ensuite shower, the one over the bed can be opened (wasn't expecting that) and I'm still wondering why hubby convinced me to put one in the loft that's facing the side of the house. But, thrilled they're in so brickwork can start.

With delay of the windows last week we lost our brickie Tom but today, brickies P and A showed up to check out the site and hoped to make a public holiday start on Monday by moving bricks around the site for prep, as long as the neighbours dont complain. He asked us, thinking we're one neighbour, so fingers crossed for a brickwork start!

Neighbour across the road update, they have a frame on site! The builder showed up and did a overgrown grass clean up and signage installation on their fencing. The dog walkers are asking if they put in extra effort because the neighbourhood is overwhelmingly saying you should not build with them on current performance but we are thrilled their build is moving forward as well.

What I'd really like is for a comfortable chair that will convert into a single bed but they don't seem to exist except T&W and IKEA and the chairs aren't comfortable

I used to have two 1.5 seater arm chairs that both converted to single sofa beds, friends who slept on them said they were ok to sleep on, i found them comfy enough to sit in. They were from Harvey Norman circa 2001. Got rid of them in 2020 replaced with a nice leather sofa and chaise - no sofa bed anymore.

The Murphy Beds I looked at getting for my spare room which incorporate shelves and desk etc were made in Italy and ranged from $7-11k so I abandoned the idea.

Brickies worked Friday and Saturday and lower level completed. Hoping Monday will bring scaffolding so they can continue.

SS says roofers are booked, need scaffolding for this as well, and solar panels for mid July.

Also saw a couple of bricks removed/replaced as the boss wasn't happy with the brick finish.

Three month, April May and June, recap and we've gone from dirt site to bricks half done, internal plumbing completed and roof start.

Scaffolding erected on Friday and roof measured so hoping next week we will have delivery and tradies. More scaffolding to come for roof and when watching the roofer, I'm reminded of the time I've gotten calls saying my roof tiler brother fell off and was at the hospital. Its crazy high.

Very happy with the pace and fingers crossed for July.

Oh, and lots of snoopy snoops at our gate. The neighbour next door to the neighbour across the road visits often, they are a multi generational family in a tiny ex housing commission house so big block, tiny fibro house. I wonder if they will be #3 new home referee rebate for us 🤣

Stranger snoopy person at front gate with camera, taking pics.

I sent hubby out to report back. Hoping it's not a complaint issue as the side and rear neighbours seem happy. Would council work Sunday?

Hubby back to report, mystery man identifies as Persian and is a roofing architecture blogger. Apparently thats a thing.

He offered to delete pics, hubby said no, and showed him pics of other houses around us that hes taken pics off and they then discussed some of the heritage homes near us and he was off to check them out as well.

I often like to take a photo of something on my daily walk. Today I drove a few minutes to go to one of the fancier suburbs just for something a bit different and took a couple of photos of things that I liked eg

Back before we Owner-Built our second home, we would wander around different suburbs in Canberra and Sydney, and take photos of home that had interesting features to add to our list of ideas. Along, with visiting the Home Centres with a measuring tape, to measure up rooms that we liked to get an accurate idea of scale.

A bit of winter self care and signed both hubby and myself up for our local Cave place for monthly saunas, floats and massages on Sunday night.... followed by celebratory kebabs at our local shop 🤣 I fell asleep and hubby was in a very relaxed daze afterwards.

Before showering I took out my tape measure and checked out the shower dimensions and glass and was very happy that we went with a frameless shower with increased glass thickness

I ended up buying another tape measure to carry in the car or my bag when I was renovating.

I have them everywhere, in cars, bags, one hidden on site.

And how's the neighbour's build?
Neighbour is doing better. They have their frames up and windows but no roof trusses yet - hoping it'll happen over the upcoming week. Their chippies have been working, Saturday night they were working in the dark.

I just looked up the place and was very surprised that they have a location 5 min from us in Melbourne! Based on your review we might give it a try. Any specific package worth looking at?

I suggest you contact them and ask about a intro package. I got a voucher from work which was for a sauna, float and massage and bought one for hubby to join me. About $180 by memory.

Im not a huge fan of sauna as just sitting there is boring for me but its winter and I need some heat. But I love love the float, I fall asleep in it.
