Denied Flounge access [SYD, WP on JL-NO Invite]

I think the thread title is highly misleading. Access was NOT denied, but rather they required the invite. It is clear in the QF rules that access is fine with a boarding pass for QFF status holders on QF flights, but their rules do not specify One World flights. The practice of lounges requiring the airline invite is common throughout the world, it is not a QF thing.

Likewise I cannot find anywhere in the One World rules that stipulate you must show a boarding pass. Would the OP be equally offended if they were ¨denied¨ access if they were unable to produce a boarding pass?

The QF rules do not mention QF flights:

Whether you are travelling in Business or First and/or a Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer, including Qantas Club members you may have access to a Qantas lounge.* When you arrive at a lounge, show your Qantas Club card, or your Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer card with your ticket or boarding pass.
If you are travelling internationally, you will also need to show your Qantas Club card or your Platinum or Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer membership card at check-in. Our international lounges are easy to find once you have gone through passport control.

Equally there is no mention of a requirement for an invitation on the access page.

So let's look at the process. Upon gaining entry to the F lounge the BP of every pax entering is scanned. Personally if I was looking for controls to ensure that we capture lounge usage by pax on other airlines for the purpose of on-billing for that usage I would not be relying on bits of paper stuck in a draw that are reliant on all pax handing them over on entry (refer my earlier comments that due to my obstinate nature I do not hand over the invites). I would be starting at a minimum with a daily/weekly report from the system that we scanned the BPs into. I am hoping that JL finance are not the ones requiring the invites to be attached to the invoice that is sent by QF to JL.

I think the thread title is highly misleading. Access was NOT denied, but rather they required the invite ......

The OP was clear with this.

Turned up at the Syd Flounge. Was flying J on JAL. Am a QF WP.

Was told I could not access. I queried the fact that I was flying on a oneword carrier and I was QF Platinum / OWE.

Response was "no you don't have access. You need the invitation slip you should have got when you checked in".
I didn't recall cellecting the invite slip, but found it stuffed in my passport. Only then was I allowed access.
I was then told " Qantas charge back the entry to JAL".

Access was initially denied. It was only after nonpop found the invite that they relented.

were you a writer for Yes Minister in former years? It certainly sounds like Sir humphrey's words.

drron, after rereading my post after your comment, yes it is a bit convoluted :)

My whole point was that airlines only stuff around with those bits of paper because they have to. Incredible though that is.

Next week I will be flying ex SYD in CX Y though will be posting points to my MPC Gold account due to better points posting rate + just short of points to go somewhere - obviously will be given an invite to the J lounge in SYD.

Do you think I will be denied access if I rock up to the F lounge and show my QF WP card given that my boarding pass would say "OW Sapphire"?

Wanted to report back on this.
Went in easy today without any problems. Had to produce my invite (MPC GO / OW Sapphire) + WP card. But after that, all the lounge agent did was write a few words on the invite and let me through.

That dastardly paper invite. In theory your BP + WP card should have done the trick me thinks. Since you, it seems, were on a oneworld operated and marketed flight.

Even if you did not have an invite you should have been admitted. See this earlier post (from this thread) of Red Roo's:
Hi All,
Thanks all for your thoughts and experiences.
Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific issue invitations for all customers that are entitled to use the First Lounge at check-in.
If a Platinum member with an eligible boarding pass arrives in the lounge they should be given access, then the lounge staff are able to contact JAL/ CX for the invitation. If other tiers will need to present the invitation to the lounge. This is a tracking tool used to report back to JAL/ CX on usage of QF lounges.
It is unfortunate that it seems a Platinum member has been handled differently in the past. I have highlighted this thread to the Lounge team as feedback.
Cheers,
Red Roo
