Denied Flounge access [SYD, WP on JL-NO Invite]

On my two recent CX flights, the invite has been printed along with the boarding pass.
I honestly don't see what the issue is in this thread - the system seems to be working.
The issue is that the OP would have been incorrectly denied access if they had not found their invitation.

In consequence of the OP's anecdote, Red Roo has indicated a re-education has occurred with the Lounge team.

As already stated:

Yes - but in fairness - you were given access, in accordance with the lounge access policies.

Whether QF asks to see just the BP or the BP and the invitation is up to them.

...
As a WP you were entitled to access, and you got it.
But the awkward part was when nonpop was refused access, contrary to the lounge access T&C. It was only when the "invitation" was found that they relented.

Hmm it is all well and good if you depart from SYD or MEL to see the F check in to get the invite, but what if you connected from somewhere else?

I nearly got stuck at Syd QF F lounge last week. I am a QF WP. Checked in at CBR for QF leg to Syd, given a CX boarding pass for SYD - HKG leg, but no lounge invite. When i rocked up to F Lounge, they asked me to go back to check in to get the CX lounge invite. I said i checked in in Canberra!

Thankfully after a few phone calls they photocopied my passport and BP and let me through. It shouldn't be this hard!

And my final thoughts as I had the first thoughts ... a First Lounge access issue is a good first world problem to have.

I have done the OW lounge hop at HKG airport with no issues....CX normally issues invites at most of their ports but when i produce my WP card, they let me know no questions asked.....I did get a weird look at the dragon air lounge- she made the comment= the QF first lounge is just next door and its much better

Next week I will be flying ex SYD in CX Y though will be posting points to my MPC Gold account due to better points posting rate + just short of points to go somewhere - obviously will be given an invite to the J lounge in SYD.

Do you think I will be denied access if I rock up to the F lounge and show my QF WP card given that my boarding pass would say "OW Sapphire"?

This is hilarious. Surely the QF card can link all this stuff with a simple swipe. Still handing out invitation cards is ridiculous but yes that's the way they run it here.

ermen,
I would be clearly stating at checkin that you want points to your CX account, but you want the oneworld benefits of your QF card.
Certainly the Amadeus systems can have a different field for recognition versus earning.

you are certainly entitled to access.

You can only enter one card at a time in the Amadeus system. There is nothing to stop you using your WP card at the time of booking to select seats, being in the race for an op-up etc then at the airport handing over your CX card so the points will post to Asia Miles.

Just because you are posting your flights to your CX account does not take away the fact that you are a WP & as such fully entitled to use the Flounge as you are travelling on a OneWorld carrier that day.

The only staff i've ever found that knows the difference between FQTV and FQTR(?) are the AAngels in LAX T4.

Every other person i've asked for this to be done has screwed it up.

The system may allow for one crediting program and one for status, but in reality, they don't know how to do it (and invariably get it wrong).

I'd be leaving my WP in until I got into the F lounge, then asking the desk staff to change it over to your CX FF number.

It could be that AA's Sabre system has the functionality to accept two different numbers for different purposes however if you enter a second FF no. into Altea, it will override the first one.

I have heard about the 2 FF numbers onto a booking thingy - but probably won't want to risk it!

Given I'm flying CX Y, will probably use the MPC GO (I hear from FT that it is supposedly higher up than OWE in terms of any op-ups) on the booking. Besides, not sure if the F lounge can change my points posting status there given different carriers? Then just show my WP card at the door and hope for the best!

Haa if I am rejected at the door, will be another thread I guess!

Amadeus can allow several numbers - it may be that Qantas restrict such SSR entry by their staff/agents.

FQTV - CX number

FQTS - QFF number

yes; I think overall; the JAL lounge at NRT is better than the QF lounge,
you just have leave time to take the train to the annex building for the QF/JQs gates..

I like the upstairs dining room

I think the thread title is highly misleading. Access was NOT denied, but rather they required the invite. It is clear in the QF rules that access is fine with a boarding pass for QFF status holders on QF flights, but their rules do not specify One World flights. The practice of lounges requiring the airline invite is common throughout the world, it is not a QF thing.

Likewise I cannot find anywhere in the One World rules that stipulate you must show a boarding pass. Would the OP be equally offended if they were ¨denied¨ access if they were unable to produce a boarding pass?

I would have thought some things come down to common sense. I haven't read the access rules in a while, but is one of the rules that you must be on a OneWorld flight? If so is it not reasonable to assume a boarding pass would be sufficient proof of that? And that without the boarding pass where would you have proof that you're on an eligible flight?

Meanwhile having an invite to the specific lounge doesn't make you any more or less eligible considering you just need to be on a qualifying flight and have current status?

I agree that it would appear at face value that in the modern era of supercomputers that a WP travelling on an eligible OW flight should not need a different piece of paper, but the reality is that airlines have a plethora of issues interacting and for some reason many (again, not just QF) still have the requirement for an invite. And I also agree that it is a pain in the bum to have to fiddle with such bits of paper. I am also sure it is an absolute pain in the bum for the airlines to have to use this procedure - so I suspect that they only do it because for some reason they have worked out that in the myriad of procedural problems they have, it is still the only solution they hve to whatever problem they have.
