What about the best MC/ Visa option for places that don't take Amex?

Given I find that I use VA more than QF and that I can basically get a VA J seat at any time I'm looking at the Velocity Flyer Card (yes the one from Citi). This card has unchanged points from the latest deval and only $129/yr with 0.66 ppd which is what we get from Diners currently.

Happy to hear other's thoughts.

I'm going to wait for everyone else to show their hand before picking a new MC/Visa. The VA card does look interesting. Shame I'll have to make a new application as Virgin Money is technically 'separate' to Citi direct. If anyone has managed to do a product switch, I'd be keen to hear. I won't be needing my Prestige after June & have already managed to switch my spend mostly to Amex.
Though recently made my first SQ redemption had to love VA points as couldn't get seats through VA so effective earn would be 0.48 SQ per $ - still better than with Citi direct.

I had a generous balance transfer with this card too

Just having a look at the Point Hacks review. Thinking the high flyer with the slightly higher annual fee at 1ppd up to $8000/month looks ok. I should be able to keep within that now I'm giving Amex a workout as my main card.

That's my thinking. My Amex will be working overtime so it'll only be $40 here or $50 there, so it won't be too bad if I go the lower option. Plus, looking to buy property in the future, I don't want to have a minimum $16k on that card and $20k on my Amex, I'll never be able to get approved for anything!

So has anyone made progress with a card to compliment the Amex? I've applied for the Virgin Money Flyer but it comes with DC service...not again! :(

Its been a week since I've applied to find out whether a response will be given to me. I'm seriously already considering cancelling the card and looking at the HSBC card (1ppd and $199/yr). This will mean that I'll have to switch everything to QF but I'm pulling my hair out, not that I have much left anyway  and am wondering if it's worth it. Why is this so hard?

I'm waiting for everyone to reveal what they're going to do before I commit. My Visa usage is down dramatically as Amex has been able to pick up the slack thus far.
I did call virgin money (which happens to be Citi issued but owned by BOQ). They said I could transfer my current Citi card across but would need to go through a new credit check. Thinking might not be as simple as they said given they'll need to do a new credit check (I'm assuming a credit assessment goes with it and unless I cancel my Citi card first, they may have already given me enough credit).
