Disappointing experience flying Jetstar with QFF point

There are only so many shazza's and Dazza's around who want to fly to Bali and get on the piss for that first trip overseas.

Seems many people have been fooled into purchasing Jetstar business class tickets and or used QF points, but once you lose a customer they start looking elsewhere.

Yes it is budget and most people know that but many expect more from a Qantas group airline.

I'm not sure what warning they have now but maybe an extra page that you must click and confirm that this is a jetstar flight, no free meals, no free entertainment, no extra baggage, no recognition of status etc etc. got to make it 200% certain people know, not 1 warning but several. Just a thought.

I'm guessing people might complain what the point booking being the same then but at least people an not fail to know before they get to the airport.

Being able to book a Jetstar seat on Qantas.com.au, but not being able to book Qantas seat on Jetstar.com.au

Fail 2
Booking Jetstar LCC flight for more $$$ than Qantas, same day, similar time, less service, no check-in baggage allowance.

I guess at times Jetstar will be cheaper, but this seems not the case many times which makes me think this is just a ploy to convince people that the LCC option is a good one, but in reality helps them lower "Enhance" the provided service and still charge for it... Bad form in so many ways me thinks...

If I change my travel plans to Thursday this week, the Jetstar flight on Jetstar.com.au is $289, however if I book the exact same flight on Qantas.com.au its $318 :shock: Joyce, WTF is going on here mate...? (i guess I am paying for QFF points and seat selection...? which would be $29 for 1,000 QFF or $0.029 per point)

Never flown Jetstar, perhaps that's the problem, perhaps I should then comment...?

Because of this issue ? Whilst there are many many valid complaints against Jetstar, in this case I don't think it is their fault (if you can separate "them" from their parent). For this issue, the fault either lies with the customer (for not reading the fine print), or for Qantas (for i) not making it as clear as it should be that these flights only include a seat and luggage and nothing else and ii) being tight a#'s and not paying for meals for flights they make available as awards on their codeshare - but paying for meals for same flights, same QF code on a commercial ticket.) There are plenty of QF codeshares that don't come with meals (eg on AA), but struggling to think of any flight on a QF code other than those on a Jetstar - where booking the exact same flight on exact some code gives you a different product when you are paying with points vs paying with cash. Appalling.

I think the warnings are very basic. I believe JQ flights are only distinguished by an Orange * next to flight number.

Noticeable if you know what are looking for but can be easily missed if your are concentrating on other things.

No, no. Previous bad experiences including one change of flight that included a change of day AND airport. Another when I had a connecting Qantas flight after a J* flight booked together on the Qantas website. The Jetstar flight was delayed with NO communication to passengers. There was no help with reorganising the connection.
I could tell other stories.
Simply I have decided that it is usually easier for me to (often) pay more for a better product on the mothership. Not everyone might agree but at the moment it is working for me.
I have special empathy for those who book Jetstar through the Qantas web site. As JohnK says you do have to be in the know to understand the notification of Jetstar flights

As mentioned ealier, you can book Jet* on Qantas, but not vice versa - The seperation only goes one way which suits the provider not the consumer.

He wants to run a premium flagship airline, then farm some of it off to a lcc and at the same time allow the lcc to be part of the "Qantas group" and its attached image and reputation so it does not appear so low cost, when really it is, more so than some other lcc.

I traditionally have no drama as a Qantas groupie to book the odd Jetstar flight.

However...

I've got no problems flying JetStar when I book through the Jetstar site, as I have full knowledge for what I am getting on the flight and what additionals have I brought/added on as extras. I go up to the airport with full knowledge of the experience I am in for and what to expect on the plane.

I am savvy enough to know the difference between a JQ and QF when booking, but the big problem for me looking at a codeshare on the QF website is I have no bloody idea what level of service I am going to get when on JQ metal, what extras are included/not included nor even if my fare bucket will give me FF points and SCs. It is that complete unknown that makes me wary from ever booking on the QFF website.

At least when booking on the JQ website I am controlling my own destiny so to speak. I don't have that ability on the QF website, nor do I have the confidence the standard I am happy to pay for will come through (especially for long haul).

Thanks for the comments/insights/opinions etc. Robert QLD sums it up quiet nicely. It is about expectations. I too have no issue flying Jetstar if I book via Jetstar.

Quick point of reference, there are flight combos where you can indeed end up flying on QF (JQ Code) having booked it on the JQ website. I am guessing not as many possibilities as the flip side, but it still can be done.

Yes, but if I booked with an LCC, and then got meals, drinks, IFE and FF points included, I'm probably not going to complain very loudly....

1. It costs the same no. of reward points. So I assume the same level of service as I would from BA for example.

It costs the same points to fly HKG-LHR on BA as it does CX and dear god I hope I don't get BA service on the X flight...

Seats - I never understand why people assume that they can select seats on the QF website for flights not operated by QF.

At least you have made the right decision now not to fly JQ again.

While there will always be those willing to fly for the least they can get, just a little bit of recognition and better staff would go a long way to keeping those who were loyal, still loyal.

I always expect nothing when I fly JQ, and I've not been disappointed yet (touch wood).



