Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

Sigh, public holiday visit to the vet for our boy. Fast shallow breathing, not himself, not eating, definitely out of sorts again….. ☹️

I knew that kidneys problems were an issue with this breed, but it seems that heart issues can be hereditary as well.

He did however, growl and hiss and not behave himself with the vet and nurse, so normal response there.
So an ultrasound, and a proper temperature test, doesn’t take too kindly to the rear exit method, don’t know why!

From a week ago when he was helping with our crossword.

Would dearly like to turn back the clock and have taken out pet insurance. :)

Might have to sell some of my toys if this keeps up.

OK, update, Erika is just off to get him, ultrasound showed an anomaly with his heart, enlarged ventricle, iirc, vet said she isn’t an expert in these areas, so more tests and fingers crossed that it can be dealt with. :(

Not good, I’m off to NZ next week for 8 days, Erika will be home, then on the 13th of Oct we are going to Laos for 2 weeks, postponed trip from pre covid. Not feeling good at all.

Poor Max and poor parents dealing with the stress. Hope the problem is one that can easily controlled but really don't know anything about coughcat heart problems (or anything really).

Hoping Max is brighter this morning, thinking positive thoughts…..

We haven't heard from the vet yet, Erika spoke to reception and they said he had eaten and had had some fluid, and he hissed and growled at them, It would be nice to know what it is.
One our Burmese showed similar symptoms, couldn't or wouldn't eat nor drink, just sat looking at the bowl licking her lips, losing weight, she had a tumour in her throat, but she was much, much older.
Kisumu had more than nine lives, locked in various sheds, garages and underneath a house (twice)!

In other sad news, a good friend had to have her Oriental put to sleep yesterday, he was suffering from Myeloma

Very sad to hear about your friend - it is awful to make that decision even though it is the right thing to do.
Good to hear Max is hissing and has had some food/liquid. Still, it's a worrying time.

Finally a call, only 1 vet all day at the hospital apparently. He is drinking, had a drip but still off his food. Now thoughts are abdominal issues, or perhaps liver related as it can be related to not wanting to eat.
So he will have more tests, xrays and still the echo thingy. He is also being very uncooperative with the staff. He is mostly good here, a few issues, but nothing major.
I think I have made the comment before that in my opinion he is the smartest cat I have ever dealt with, so I’m wondering if there are some deep seated issues from before we got him. Wish he could tell us!
I doubt we will be able to get him near a carry cage again. :)

Should change this to a Maxie thread! :)

They were having issues giving him drugs, so we went out there this morning for a few hours, gave him gabapentin, an antibiotic and appetite stimulant. He is looking much better, fur looking as it did before, and he did eat some cooked chicken.
His white cell count is still up, so, possible infection, hence antibiotics.
His favourite food is raw chicken mince, which we used to give him, but now it is diced chicken, but still raw, possibly this is the issue, as raw chicken is full of bacteria, so that will also be a no no from now on.

He will be monitored again tonight, with the possibility of coming home tomorrow. Photos on her phone and I’ll post some when I get them.
