also make certain you check the price of two one way flights. the exAKL prices are sometimes lower enough to make it workwhile. especially if flying in the Y cabin to AKL and J from AKL...

Happy wandering

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I'm not a regular flyer for business so have not previously reached PS however I am now 160 SC away from PS. I have a trip to Auckland (ex Sydney) soon and if I travel in J then I can earn 160 for the round trip. I am tempted by LAN's $780 return, especially as they are now flying a 787 on the route; however that price is only available direct from LAN. If the trip is booked through Qantas with a QF codeshare number then the cost is more like $1300 return. As far as I can tell, I would have to book on the QF flight number to get the 160 SCs; if I booked through LAN then this would only be worth 80 SCs.

Am I correct here? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Cheers

Welcome aboard!

Yes, you are correct.

Can I ask why you want PS?

Just for the street cred ;)

I'm not too fussed about it really; but if I didn't have to go out of my way to get it then at least I'd get a couple of bag tags out of it. It's more that I'm probably going to book in J on LAN so was wondering whether that trip would be enough to get me to PS.

Thanks for the advice all.

Sensible. I don't think the benefits are worth spending $500-600

Any sub USD 2 / SC runs within CONUS still going around or are they about as rare as hens teeth?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Continental Northern United States? Caribbean or Northern United States? . . .

CON = Continental (or contiguous)
US = US

CONUS = Continental US

It's a US Department of Defense term.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Flyer Frank, depending on where you are flying LAN, LAN with its own flight number TT in J earns 40 SC!
LAN with a QF flight number TT will earn 80 SC.
If flying further afield, and if at all possible, choose to fly that LAN flight with a QF flight number.

Next week I am off to do BKK-KUL-HKG ret for ~AU$500 and 240SC. Still available for those who are keen on an AU$2/SC run.

Off to BKK in a couple of months. Which carrier...MH?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Unsure for the protocol/etiquette for this thread, but I'll be in NYC area for two weeks starting next Thursday/Friday 21/22 August. Ideally looking for around the 500/600 SC mark. I've had a quick read of the various threads and a go with Mileage Monkey/AA's multicity booking engine however was wondering if anyone had any particular run routing suggetions?

Yeap, that would be with MH.
It is the MH J special that comes and goes. This one has been around for the last week or so so may not last much longer. BKK seems to be the best place to start with MH as flights are about 12,000THB ret (about AU$500). All flights are via KUL and earn 80SC ret (BKK-KUL) before adding the final destination.

At the moment on offer are HKG (240SC ret), TPE (240), SIN (120), PEK(280) and so on.

Re: Research & book AA "Non-refundable "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise SC

I'll be doing my first AA status run next northern summer. The most appropriate dates for me are at the start of July 2016, which I initially thought would be a difficult time due to the 4th of July but it seems prices for flights and overnight hotel stays are very reasonable. I've found flights at US$2.27/SC and I'm happy with that.

I'm combining this with ex-EU flights on BA to get to the US and wanted to know about how long it is taking for SCs to post to QF accounts from BA and AA. My membership year ends in July. Apologies if this question is answered previously in this thread (I did search but couldn't find anything).

Your membership expiry date is not important - but rather the dates you take the actual flights.

If the flights are within your membership year, they will be credited as such, regardless of when the points post. This means you can be scheduled to depart up until 23:59 on the last day of your membership year. (If your flight is delayed you may need to apply for an original routing credit.)

Your current membership status will carry over for a couple days to allow for any flights taken in the previous membership year to credit.

Will you have a lot of SCs before you go on this run? If not, my suggestion would be to wait until August and get near on 2 years status rather than just 1 year status from the run.

Timing is against me. Other commitments only allow a small window for the status run.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Ok we are often near LAX so going to PTY is not out of the question. To get into Panama City do we need any special visa? How do I get AA to credit status credits to Qantas? Is there a suitable and safe airport hotel there and just how many status credits will this earn for LAX-PTY- LAX?

You don't need a visa, but be aware that if you're coming back to Australia within six days of being in Panama, you may need to show a vaccination certificate stating you have a current yellow fever vaccine.

Thanks for this thinking of doing this run March next year if still available, did not realise about the vaccination requirements

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!
