Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I am about 240 SC short of Platinum... any recommendations for a run ex-SYD. Happy to spend up to $2k. 31 Oct year end for me

If you don't mind hopping on a bus to Canberra, some good stuff under the current NZ sale:

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

SG does not guarantee a "shadow" but J does.

er no. Only in the case of sitting in a single seat in a config of (for example) 1-2-1 since there is no seat next to you. Otherwise this statement makes zero sense (to me, anyway)

Also no status level *guarantees* a shadow. Not even your CLPO. If the cabin is fully booked then it's fully booked.

QF's just launched J sale at $549 one way, just over $1k return is the best value and fits the october dates nicely. The CBR hop is genius to add the extra SC - bravo.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Perfect - just booked! And even saved a bit.

Good outcome... I usually re-qualify for Gold easily with worth travel but within touching distance of Plat made it worthwhile... and also accompanying my parents on their once in a life time trip to Europe next year so at last they can do it in comfort!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yeah, but flights to AKL leave from the International terminals.......

Just pointing out there's no need to type (my bolding) SYDint/MELint when talking about F Lounges.

Or at least one of them can - Platinum members are only allowed one (adult) guest in both Qantas and Oneworld lounges when travelling internationally.

Actually Poochie is right except for the guarantee. My wife (SG) and myself regularly travel KTA-PER on separate PNR's. At T-80 I select 4C for myself and 4A for Mrs RC. When I look at her booking through her log-on, 4B is always shown as occupied, but when I look at the booking through my log-in the seat 4B is shown as available. i.e. Any WP and above can select the empty middle seat, but SG and below cannot. I probably get a shadow about 80% of the time. But, as we know, once control goes to the airport, all bets are off!.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yes, I do know there are no F lounges and no F class dom within Australia.
But I do have a dog eye on some F flights TT with the EK metal QF flight number, and coming back (probably) with a LA metal QF flight number (wide body leaving AKL earlier than EK's evening service).
Must at least try SYD and MEL F lounges once, not at the same time of course.
Aim for F in Dec for MEL - AKL and maybe Easter SYD - CHC/AKL.
Edit: I only ever relax on my QF flights after the annoucement (The last cabin door is now closed... and then the talk about turning on your device to flight mode...).
As QF SG in Y, half the time, empty seat, with VA very rare, though strange on my ADL - SYD and back flights in Jul, they gave me a shadow.
QF website is showing J sale SYD - AKL for Aud$549! Right now... Christmas Day departure.
Wish I had some human $ with me right now.
$549!!!! for 80 QF SC, thats $6.8825 per QF SC.

This is anecdotal. Others have also provided anecdotal evidence that shadows are not provided on busy trunk routes like MEL-SYD. They are far more common on the less bussier routes (I've seen lots on flights in/out of CNS, for example.

My point still remains that there are no guarantees for ANY status level of a shadow in any cabin, and the comment that being in J gives one is ridiculous. IMHO.

Oh Pooch you need to get over to the USA.

not to mention you missed the rather specialised sale of QF J MEL-AKL one way over christmas for $380 ($440 for QF/EK). Sweet deal with the F sale ex-AKL :)

I agree, that was one head-scratcher. :-|

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Ta for the MEL - AKL tip.
Never knew QF would go that low!

it was a Christmas special and only valid from MEL for some reason. Travel dates were like Dec 25-Jan 10 IIRC. I was rapt to pick up the EK406(as QF8406) for $440.

Yeah, we were pretty happy with it as well :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I know this is OT, but I really want to know (and I'm not trying to be rude here)...

SG does not guarantee a "shadow" but J does.

Can you please explain what you mean by the assertion "... but J does" with regards to a Shadow?

thank you

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I presume he just means you have a bit more room so its like having a shadow in Y

Or that you can have a window seat to yourself if you fly on the (wide-body) A380 (with a QF flight number, of course). As RichardMEL suggested above re the 1-2-1 configuration.

I'd be inclined to just let sleeping dogs lie.
