Daytrip to OOL via SYD on the Saturday would get 240 SCs (including the bonus) for $1,358. Beyond that you're probably better off looking abroad.

Thanks. Will consider. Happy to spend the weekend away and come back by Monday morning. Looked at Mel - SIN via syd but that was about 4k in J for about 300 SC

CBR-SYD-CHC is good value, for example.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Does the error code come in, that F not available as a class and the booking can't be done online... MEL - SYD no F. Or words to that effect.
Each time I try to do an F ADL - SYD -CHC, computer booking says no. But phone booking for J would probably work in linkage ADL- MEL/SYD/BNE then F Au east ciast NZ.

Pooch, I believe your problem is ex-ADL is connecting in SYD. It works fine from MEL with a 0600 or 0630 departure and comes up online.

eg: Sat 3 Oct (AFL grand Final day):

prices at $2671

the "error" re cabin class is simply that the domestic sectors book into J class, the internationals into A class.

ex-ADL you may have to phone it in and do an overnight connection in SYD on the outbound.

Actually I just got it to work online for eg Fri 2nd Oct it prices out the connecion:

Thanks. Will consider. Happy to spend the weekend away and come back by Monday morning. Looked at Mel - SIN via syd but that was about 4k in J for about 300 SC

MEL-BNE-DRW return J for $2074 and 280+140=420 SCs might be fewer than you need but would help you and is even possible in a day (ouch!).

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi all,

I'm WP with an anniversary of 30 Nov. On current flights (it's been a lean year), I will only have 690 SCs and I assume I will drop back to SG.

However, I have received a one-month only 50% SC bonus offer.

I'd need another 510 SCs to requal WP ... or 340 SCs with the 50% SC offer. Any advice on the cheapest way to get 340 SCs?

Reply directly above yours looks good.

True, but the poster indicates being located in SYD. Flights from there will probably be more expensive. I haven't checked for any myself but SYD-xx_x-DRW would seem a good place to start looking.

Isn't it 255 SC's needed?

Using Multicity search is also the key to finding something that works.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Yes, there is a distinct disadvantage living and working in ADL when it comes to wanting to splurge out flight wise.
I have to do a split if I want to do the F from Aust east coast to NZ, if I want a J, then it can be done easily in one booking PNR.
But if I want to try F, I have do a ADL to SYD or MEL overnight stop, then get the EK metal QF flight number next day.
Have to do it this way this Christmas Day, 24 evening ADL - MEL (with QF booked and paid), then aim to do a separate booking F MEL - AKL on 25 Dec 15.
Edit: I have not tried it, but I might try it one day, for a F trip SYD - CHC, probably Jul 16 to see snow at Arthurs Pass, can that error code be "ignored" and the booking would go through?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Just be careful with the fine print on some of these SC bonuses. At least one I have seen has burried away the lovely little gotchya of bonus SC's being awarded per the Y fare SC, or for premium cabin fares the fully flex SC rate - that's a nasty little sting!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Pooch, it's not that you HAVE to do separate PNR's as you suggest, it's that the QF online booking engine is broken and can't handle it, at least for some dates - even ones with availability showing in the appropriate buckets. I think it's a bug and probably could definitely call QF to issue the booking with fees waived given you can't do it online.

However, booking these as one way flights may actually save you money. one can select one way ADL-MEL-AKL, in F, on the QF website, then AKL-MEL-ADL from the QF NZ website (or just change location to NZ - same thing). the ex-NZ sectors can often be a little cheaper due to NZD exchange rate and the occasional sale.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Speaking of ex-NZ fares, the F fare special is back for a small time (QF fare basis AANZ) for sale 13SEP-19SEP for travel 23SEP-30JAN NZD899 in F from NZ-SYD/MEL/BNE, with appropriate add ons to/from other destinations (I haven't priced out ADL or CBR).

It would be worth the J fare over, and I even brought up without problem ADL-SYD-AKL on LA metal (QF321) under the J sale, or QF/EK and then the F fare back.

note J sale finishes tonight 15SEP.

Curious minds want to know: is that generally as low as it gets?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I realise Jessicatam did put a warning out.
Though have to say by the time I get across ADL 6am flight to SYD dom at 8.25am then rush to SYD int term dies not leave a lot of F lounge time.
EK SYD - CHC dep 10.30am part of the year.
Overnight in SYD does give me 2.25 hrs of bliss breakfast time.

for NZ-east coast oz in F? more or less around the level. Note EK sells same seats for a bit less on the EK# if one doesn't care about QF SC's, but yes, it's been around the $900 NZD mark past year or so that I've noticed. J usually around $600 or so NZD for the sale fares.

There are the odd anomaly fares out there (as opposed to mistake fares) but this seems to be a general sale level in my experience.
