re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Question for the brainstrust...

Does anybody have any suggestions ex BNE (or OOL) for cheapest way to earn 50 SC's? Am able to depart any day next week to do a quick day trip somewhere...

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Not sure how it will price, but you could look at BNE/OOL-xSYD-xMEL-HBA return. That will earn 60 SC for discount Y.
Or BNE/OOL-SYD in J and back in Y will earn 40+10.

Yeah I looked at OOL-SYD one way in discount Y, back in J and it priced best case at just over $13 per status credit! Ouch!

Is that the going rate these days?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Book now fly now with QF will be expensive, as they would have sold (real/true) discY earlier on.
You are probably seeing flexY fares now.
Unless they have a surprise fare sale frenzy.
Guess if you have to, you have to, eh?

OOL-xSYD-MEL in Flex Y = 40 SC for $289
MEL-OOL + in JQ with bundle = 15 SC for $155

Total 55 SC for $444 or $8 / SC

If you can't handle JQ then:
MEL-BNE in discount Y= 15 SC for $199. Total (including OOL-xSYD-MEL) 55 SC for $488 or $8.87 / SC
MEL-xSYD-OOL in discount Y = 20 SC for $179. Total 60 SC for $468 or $7.80 / SC
MEL-xSYD-OOL in flex Y = 40 SC for $289. Total 80 SC for $578 or $7.23 / SC

I have done many MR dummy bookings, I think there is a max sector that can be booked to fly in a day.

Are you referring to the two flights allowed by QF a day on the multicity tool? There are ways around that and using a booking site other than QF can get around it as well.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

It was expanded to include QF runs, as well as zoned routing anomalies. Not sure how up to date it is.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Did my SEA-PHX-ORD-DFW-SEA run last night. Went mostly well; only had to walk from one gate straight to the other in PHX. Otherwise got back in time for my "normal" flight home and my bags turned up fine as well. 390 SC.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Can anyone assist with a Status run to accrue 251SC to maintain Platinum.
Currently in South Africa but returning to Aust 15th November. Points roll over on 30th November, so have 2 weeks upon my return to do the status run.
Based in BNE.
Any assistance appreciated. :)

A quick run to CGK via SYD in J would give you 320 SC for $2,183.

Alternatively, BNE-SYD-CHC return would yield 240 SC in J for around $1600.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

For the flight back to Au, is it in the calculation? JNB to Au in J flying QF to Au would probably give close to it.
Not cheap though.
BNE to AKL in EK F will net 120 SC one way, and 240 return, also not cheap.

Yep, the flight DUR -> JNB -> SYD -> BNE is already in the Calc. Y only I am afraid, yields about 110 SC's.

And they've posted to my activity statement already.

Have you thought about a local run over there with BA/Kulula/Comair?

I'm no expert on this and am happy to be corrected but I think that you could fly DUR-CPT-JNB return in J for around A$1600 and 240 SCs, for example.

Gizzard, did check/make this itinerary using the Multi-city tool?

OOL-xSYD-MEL in Flex Y = 40 SC for $289
MEL-OOL + in JQ with bundle = 15 SC for $155

Total 55 SC for $444 or $8 / SC

No. I just checked for one-way bookings. JQ through the JQ site. On the QF site just enter a one-way OOL-MEL and look for the flights via SYD.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Foxxy74, as well as the suggestion of a local run in RSA with BA/Connect etc as suggested above (my first thought) how about something semi-local with UL (Sri Lankan) to/from CMB or other points that may be cost effective? if you have time prior to November of course.
