Yes, meaning more room in J. Quasi shadow if you must.
Have done the TT J SYD - CHC once, JC 737.
Back to SYD was the EK J 777.
I do note too, that some rows on the EK 380 in F have the little table on the window side, and some rows have it on the aisle side.
2 and 4 have tables on the aisle side, if I am not mistaken, so the seat is closer to the window.

Yes EK use staggered style seating in J on the A380

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I managed to get the special early Dec. Very happy camper, paid the little extra to be on the Emirates A380 :)

The dates we booked, the EK flights were half the price of the QF ones.

And welcome to AFF :)

There is an approx aud50 surcharge on a380 in J when booked in the same fare class for trans tasman. Of course if the cheaper fare classes are sold out on the B737 the A380 can still work out cheaper

The specific dates that we booked, the QF coded EK flights were $800 return. QF was over $800 oneway and over $400 in Y

Yeah just depends what fare buckets are available. But for example the I class sale akl-mel last week has a nzd60 surcharge when booking A380 compared to B737 (all qf coded)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Yes, far more chance for I class to be available in the huge J cabin on the 380 vs the 8 seat 737.

On the date I got it, yes, the QF metal flights were all showing the D (I think) fare at around $800 AUD, and the QF I fare on EK was $440 one way. I nearly broke my mouse hand I was clicking book so fast :D (and the NZ899 F return was suite too)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Constructive comment intended...
Yes, meaning more room in J. Quasi shadow if you must.

Can you please try to be more specific when making statements then? There's a big difference in meaning to the blanket statement "SG does not guaranete a "shadow", but J does" and the idea that extra space in J is as good as one.

Again, meant constructively, often statements are made that are open to wide interpretation, or not clear. Clarification of the meaning would be really helpful :)

We now return to discussion of enjoying collecting SC's :D

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Pun intended? ;)

oh but of course :)

just on that MEL-AKL $380/440 fare. It was a real oddball because it was only offered ex-MEL and I think only to AKL It wasn't out of BNE or SYD... and while some others were onto it earlier(I think posted here) I discovered it myself totally by chance and had a bit of a freak out (in a good way !) - it wasn't overly publicised that I saw but was a ripper (and not a mistake fare, though I did check to be sure!).

It did make sense, why not sell the J inventory over the (quiet) christmas/ny period where there may be Y demand, but not paid J, so rather than force op ups, get a bit more $$$ for a paid J seat? What bemused me is why it was seemingly offered only ex-MEL. I would think BNE at the very least would be in a similar situation. SYD maybe not so much. It was all a bit odd to me, but greatly appreciated :)

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm currently looking to book flights to hit WP by 31st March 2016, currently PS at 340 SC's with no current work trips planned. Also have the 50% status credit offer, so must book flights by 13th September.

I have a trip planned from MEL to PVG and HKG around Christmas / New Year this year can anyone suggest some nice routes to get me enough SC to bump me up close to enough to reach WP. Have not booked any flights as of yet, so flexibility is on my side.

Unfortunately not really. China is an expensive place to do status runs... assuming you'll need business class fares to get SCs? HKG might be cheaper for some SC runs on MH (for example to BKK via KUL) - but I can't speak to those. There might be some I class fares exTPE or ICN on CX. But getting to both of those can be expensive.

I'd be trying to work Japan in somehow and do some JL trips to Okinawa.

Doesn't all have to be asia / in the same trip! Just have to book it by this week. so
Likely I'll go MEL - SYD - PVG - HKG - MEL for my December trip, which should net me around 360 ish SC, plus an extra 180 SC so 540 SC from that trip, just looking for some other viable options to get me around another 500 SC (making use of the 50% bonus SC offer)

Could make use of the grand final long weekend to do a status run?!

Will PVG-HKG be eligible for the bonus SCs?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Not cheap, but MEL-SYD-CHC v.v. in QF "F" (ie: on EK for SYD-CHC v.v.) will net 330 SC+165SC 50% bonus=495SC. around $2.5k outlay but could possibly be done as a day return or overnight. That's the first thing that comes to mind.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Does the error code come in, that F not available as a class and the booking can't be done online... MEL - SYD no F. Or words to that effect.
Each time I try to do an F ADL - SYD -CHC, computer booking says no. But phone booking for J would probably work in linkage ADL- MEL/SYD/BNE then F Au east ciast NZ.

Daytrip to OOL via SYD on the Saturday would get 240 SCs (including the bonus) for $1,358. Beyond that you're probably better off looking abroad. AKL is cheaper that weekend, $549 for 120 SCs.
