gavmen

what about a domestic run say OOL-SYD-MEL/CBR r/t. You could do one way in J (80SC) and the other in flex Y (40 SC) for your 120 SC.

Agree,

Something like BNE-MEL-HBA on Flex can be done down and back in a day, $778 for 100 SCs.

I cant seem to get any of these domestic flights at these prices? I always get $550~ for each Flex hop?

That's a long time down the wrong end of an airplane.
Why not fly to AKL, one way in J and return in Y? That'll get you ~110 SCs and should cost around $900 or even less. 3.5hrs in the back of a 737 would be far more pleasant that 15hrs in the back of a 744/A388. :)
Alternatively, you could pick up a $750 F sales price from AKL to SYD one-way and fly over there on a cheap JQ ticket.

Am I going crazy but I cant seem to find any J or F on JQ, AKL => SYD or BNE?

I think the best way this is going to go is J on QF for $800~ BNE => AKL, Y on QF/JQ $200 AKL => BNE; I think total is still >$1000.

Sad Panda.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm trying to line up an intra-Asia MR in Jan/Feb 2016. I can get BKK-KUL-HKG return for NZD1170 which nets 240SC. Seems pretty good to me based on the dates as basically the only times I can do an MR is ex-BKK on 5-6 Feb or ex-HKG 13-17 Jan. I've never done an intra-Asia MR before. Does this sound like good value and is there anything obvious I'm missing or other routes I should consider?

Just be mindful that it is Chinese New Year during that period, so hotels would be extremely busy

J and F on JQ are called StarClass, and they're not offered transtasman. It's QF premium economy but with all the glamour and distinction of a low cost carrier.

Its not so much what it's called, but its not offered between NZ and AUS.

EDIT: whooops just noticed you'd already said its not offered Trans Tasman

the starclass branding has been gone for years, its Business Class on all JQ literature/website/etc etc

More to the point for AKL-BNE, F is offered on QF codeshare on EK. sale fares go for NZD $900 one way.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

my first search found a much closer one:

$858

or on Nov 1 (Sun) this one is $778

I figured out why it was costing the bomb, I was booking this as each separate trip instead of BNE => HOB.

As an aside, if you were to book the EK from BNE => AKL would this accrue status points? (kind of confused on this codeshare conditions)

Thanks for the help guys.

ONLY if you book it as the QF flight number (eg: QF8434/8435). If you book as EK434/435(or whatever the number is-going off memory) you will only get QFF points, but *not* SC's.

status run ..... ideas

hello all,

Melbourne based. need to get some idea for a trip in April 2016 (yikes). I need to accrue 60 status credits on QF in one weekend in economy so I get Silver .... thoughts? would prefer east coast runs in economy. :)

a bit confused here. You want Silver status prior to a trip in April? or you want your April trip to be to get the 60SC ?

anyway you could do MEL-OOL or MEL-BNE in flex Y return would get you 60. Or MEL-CBR-SYD-MEL in flex Y. are a couple that come to mind

Be sure this is a value proposition for you. Silver is really not worth a whole lot to most folks. I'd weigh up if it's worth spending the time and $$ for the return.

Getting to silver doesn't help you to get Gold except as you must pass through the 300 SC's to get to the 700 SC's required.

You need another 400 on top of the 60 from this suggested trip before the end of your membership year.

Your SC's will go back to 0 at the start of the year , though you will retain Silver status for the full following 12 months.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Yes - going to start with Silver first - have a bit of travel planned for mid to 2nd half of anniversary year which should bring me up :-D :-D

I don't recall anyone saying that JQ selling J or F.
My suggestion was JQ from BNE to AKL in Y and return in EK/QF F.
I paid $540 for a QF J ticket from AKL to SYD (purchase a few weeks ago, flying in a month) so if that was added to a few hundred dollar Y seat with either JQ or QF, you could hit the required SCs.
