Alternatively, BNE-SYD-CHC return would yield 240 SC in J for around $1600.

I am thinking this may be the go. Seems to be about the cheapest / easiest I can see at this time. What is the best option to book? I have tried using the 'Multicity' tool but it makes me stay an additional day in Sydney on the return. I am thinking the last week in November for the trip, probably mid-week as I would assume these flights would be a little quieter mid-week? If I have to overnight in Christchurch, is there decent accommodation close to the airport?

You should be able to book this on the QF website, but enter BNE-CHC and select the flight with the connection. If that doesn't work, and it should, book by phone with QF requesting that routing. You'll have to ask for the phone booking fee to be waived.

You also shouldn't have to o/night as the aircraft turns around in CHC IIRC.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

If you have to transit overnight in CHC, there is the Sudima Hotel, very walkable from the CHC int airport.
Not a Hilton sort or a Novotel sort, but its the closest and does not entail a taxi or Supershuttle.
If you get that Sudima, you can drop your bag/s off, and get the Metro Canterbury bus into CHC CBD and back, $8 or so per trip, can buy from the bus driver.
I would transit CHC overnight than trying to do the EK with a QF flight number turn around.
As an Aust (I assume) passport holder, you can use Smartgate.
BNE - SYD can be in discY, and SYD - CHC you could do F, coming back, CHC - SYD in J, and then SYD - BNE in discY. 10 + 10 + 120 + 80 = 220 SC. $$$ though.
Do a separate booking.
SYD - CHC in F, if you overnight in SYD, means more time in the QF SYD F lounge! Rydges is just across the road at SYD int. That is what I am planning to do from ADL one day, either Jul 16, or Jul 17. My first in QF SYD F lounge.
First flight from BNE - SYD - CHC in J on that same day, will get you maybe an hour or less in the QF SYD J lounge.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Aud$1775 all in the one same PNR and booking, J all the way.
05Nov15.
QF501
QF8766
QF8765
QF556
Can be done online if you really really really want to do it as a single day trip.
Out from BNE dom at 5am and back to BNE dom at 21.35pm.
If the EK "bird" goes technical though, you would be up something creek.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Thanks Poochie. I need a total of 240SC's to retain WP. Actually I need 241, but am hoping they forgive me the 1 point fall short. My sister lives in Sydney so isnt really a big deal if I need to stay there overnight. I am also thinking not a big deal if I need to stay the night in CHC.
SYD F Lounge is awesome, you will enjoy it :)

Now I need to decide what I am going to do as I would think I need to book this thing pretty soon to get half acceptable pricing.

Will look into this further. Need to be more towards the end of the month. I dont get back from South Africa until the 15th November.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Ah, you already are a WP, should have noticed.
Spend a few days in NZ? JQ with a plus bundle will earn some SCs.
How about... J BNE - SYD and back, and F from SYD - CHC and back!!!
Linking a F flight from Au to NZ to anything Au dom will entail you having to phone up QF telephone sales.
Edit: 24Nov15, its Aud$1675, cheaper than 08Nov. So our "theory same day flight" still can be done.
And there is still no orange (error) bar for that same day flight.
I am a muppet, that last flight SYD - BNE 556 shows, "your flight from SYD - BNE will be in Y".
Grr.

Happy for someone with more experience here to jump in, but if I remember correctly from posts in the past, I'm not sure how reliable this stance is

Don't count on it! Requalification is automatic by the computer... 1 point short and you won't qualify! Simple as that. It'd then be up to the FF program managers discretion whether they will allow it or not. No guarantees.

How are you 1 SC short? Was it from a bonus SC offer that rounded down instead of up?

Absolutely make sure that you earn 241 or more status credits and not 240 if you wish to retain Platinum painlessly.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Also on the topic of intra-Asia MH Z fares, BKK-KUL-MNL return is great value. I just booked that return for THB24,000 (NZD$1000) which nets 240SC's. Have to overnight though, but airport hotels are NZD$40 or so.
I am not sure how you get 240 SCs. BKK-KUL earns 40 SCs and KUL-MNL earns 60 SCs.

P.S. First post in this thread. Some excellent suggestions.

P.P.S. I just saw the new Qantas earning table. My goodness....

KUL-MNL is more than 1500 miles so has always been 80 SC in Biz class
2*(40+80) = 240

Starting next April getting to 600 SC is likely going to be easier for QFF than CX MPO if you are flying in the Y/PEY cabins...

Happy wandering

You're right. Must have confused KUL-MNL with SIN-MNL which I was looking at the other day and it is 1474 miles.

So all those that left QFF will come back? ;)

Exactly right. Was a 50% SC bonus offer. Looks like I will get another 20 or 40 SC's with a DUR -> JNB -> DUR run next week (depending Y or discount economy ticket). So the SC run should work out fine if that is the case.

The other way would be to call QFFF and ask for the 1/2 point :) You're actually entitled to it under the terms and conditions of the bonus SC offer... so you'd get a full point.

That is good to know. I will keep that in mind if I am still looking at being under closer to the end of November.

Actually hoping that AA doesn't do something stupid (for members) with the PEY/Y+ cabin earn before Feb 2016.
Earn your status in starting Jan 2016 and it will hold through Feb 2018.

QFF? soft landing to PS.

Happy wandering

TBH I achieved QF LTG due to being blissfully ignorant of other FF schemes. If I chopped and changed with the latest trend/posts I doubt I would have made it.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Please note current QF J sale AU-NZ ends in a couple of days, and as it seems to always be the case, there's a ex-NZ (well AKL at least) F sale going the other way. also ends in a few days. Valid for most dates except for the week or so prior to Christmas.
