Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Yes, I've done it myself. Make sure that you don't pay full price and get one of the ~800NZD sales!

.. which would be for CHC-SYD :)

(current sale ends TODAY btw :) )

just booked me one about 30 minutes ago :)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I think the colleagues and I who went trans Tasman in F and earnt F QF SC from it (up to December last year) would be the last lot of people who would be able to do this!
All dates for any "trickery" for getting an F ticket from MEL/BNE/SYD - AKL/SYD - CHC in EK metal with QF flight number now comes up as not defined, so I think QF must have negated the ability to earn QF SC from F flying EK metal.
Thought I saw that an F fare come up, but that turned out to be J.
No F class SYD - CHC for Jul either. J does come up still, so still can earn 80 QF SC but not 120.
Guess only RR can tell us for sure whats the final decision.
>>>Edit: For RichardMEL, if you go and try www.qantas.co.nz now, and put in booking for CHC - SYD in F now, it will come up with 2 lines, ((an error has occurred processing your request with some digits under it)).

Yes yes. I am well aware of this. It is a BUG not trickery or QF deliberately negating anything. Seriously you need to stop making these grandiose assumptions of malice on the part of QF. Work experience kids screwing up the web booking engine sure, but not malice. QF publish the fares and they CAN be bought from online travel agents (I did one yesterday due to the ridiculous "database" error). Why QF have not resolved this issue for weeks is puzzling, but that's something else totally.

The sale has been extended till Jan 25th for ex-NZ F (and J/Y) sale fares :D

Hanlon's Razor - Don't attribute to malice what can easily be explained by stupidity.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

A bit OT - has anyone had any issues with Thai immigration for status runs? I've got a same day HKT-KUL-HKT coming up and on a New Zealand passport with visa waiver it shouldn't be a problem. 2 weeks later I've got another one starting and finishing in BKK but it's an overnight in MNL.

Absolutely and totally wrong. There has been no change to any earn to QF codeshares on EK metal.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

This is one of the reasons I wouldn't want to be RR, it's just not feasible to keep responding to *everything*.

Specially when based on an incorrect assumption/comment in the first place ....

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

So no one else has had the not defined error message come up in making a TT F booking flying EK on the QF website?

As I expressed the other day. YES it is an error. You do NOT need to book via qantas direct to get these fares despite the error, or you can phone QF and book the fare. It's not a sinister plot or trickery by QF - it's a screwed up booking engine issue that QF clearly are in no hurry to resolve, but it's really more annoying than stopping anything.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

As an aside managed a booking via voucher to come up just fine for F. Seems the "older" interface used with gift vouchers does work :)

not so great for ex-NZ fares, but those can be gotten any number of ways, as already discussed

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

A quick question and apologies in advance if I've asked this in the wrong spot :)

By my calculations I'll have 720 SC's on my membership anniversary this year.

I do have a business class flight ADL-BNE-LAX-BNE-ADL in August with VA but obviously that ain't going to help me to achieve QFF WP

With 680 SC's required to reach WP is there a cost-effective way to do this, either while I am in the U.S. with AA or elsewhere?

Worth gunning for?..... don't be silly Tehuringa... save your money for tacos... that sort of stuff

Cheers

TH

(A quick edit) - I have a business class Cathay flight ADL-HKG-PVG-HKG-ADL in June if there is anything out of Asia that could be applicable.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Id say your best bet would be cheap F flights while you're in the US.

If you dont have time then booking CX flights out of PVG intra asia in J isn't too bad. You can get flights for between $5-8 per SC depending on destination

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'd ponder on your 2017 travel - will WP (over SG) be helpful to you in your planned travels during your NEXT membership year? If,for example, you may fly VA or other non QF partners more, then it's probably not going to help, if you're flying through SYD/MEL on int on QF or oneworld, or plan EK flying or the like, then it may well be worth it for the F lounge accesses at places like SYD/MEL/HKG/LAX/LHR/NRT etc (if that's something that interests you)

it's a fair swag of extra SC's to look to attain just to have that status - so perhaps the value will be determined by future plans

(which obviously one may not have much knowledge of or control over at this point).

Having said that, AA would be the best way to do it in the USA, or possibly some cheap MH Business fares within Asia.

Which online agent did you use?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hello again. The other half has decreed we should visit the US in August for 4 weeks for her birthday so I've scratched my plans of further earns past keeping my silver this membership year (May 31) in favour of a status run in the US. Leaving from PER, via SYD/BNE/MEL and on to the US and return should sort my 4 required QF flights, with the eventual goal of being in NYC for her birthday. I've been reading through pages and pages of suggested runs, enough to confuse me. Can I please get the other members suggestions on which point of entry to the US I should use for ease of starting a status run? My preference would be to knock it out at the start of the holiday and have hit SG before beginning our return trip to Oz. For the pure convenience of the status run, where is the best US city to start? We have no itinerary yet so anything is possible. I would however, prefer to not leave the country (ie no PTY runs). I was poking around on the QF/Matrix sites last week and noticed I missed a Y sale to the west coast which is a bit lame, any idea on how frequently these come around?

TIA

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

ORD is generally a good city to fly to/from. Combinations like LAX-PHX-DFW-ORD, SEA-PHX-DFW-ORD, ORD-DFW-MCO can be had for $300-400 USD.

Starting from SEA can be really good, but SFO/LAX is also okay.
