re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

posted on the srilanka thread (but no response :-()

wondering anyone 'transiting' at Male airport before ??
found Srilanka business class ticket from KUL - MLE (return) doable in 1.5day..but worried the transit time at Male airport..need expertise advise on the below itinerary :

KUL - CMB 15:05 - 16:10 (28th Mar)
CMB - MLE 18:35 - 19:30 (28th Mar)

MLE - CMB 22:20 - 00:15 (28/9th Mar)
CMB - KUL 01:00 - 07:20 (29th Mar)

Just wondering whether it will be possible to bypass the custom/immigration and go to transit counter directly (assuming i can get the return boarding pass while checking in at KUL)

And this itinerary earning 240SC costing RM1650....

You might find this FT thread of use, though it's CX specific.
Several positive experiences posted.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi Guys, would appreciate a hand trying to work a US status run. I'm in SEA with a weekend off April 8th-9th. Ideally a 1 day loop considering I've already got a hotel in SEA, but if I can make it work so be it. Would be nice to get about 400-500SC's. QF SG, shooting for WP. I'll hit WP for work sometime in the year anyhow, would like it to come early. I've read "SFO-LAX-SEA vv earns 300 SC's for ~$780. " from 2010 on here. TIA. Would be nice to hit WP and have 1.5 years to soak it up, instead of just over a year, which is when I'll hit it if I don't sneak in a status run.

Seattle is a real cough because there is actually very few flights in and out compared to other places. There is a big difference between 400 & 500, especially in one day from SEA. You might get cheaper in 2 days but these are some one day ones:

These are all in $USD

SEA-ORD-ATL-MIA-DFW-SEA $1231 410SC http://goo.gl/flights/zrT4
SEA-ORD-ATL-MIA-DFW-LAS-LAX-SEA $$2525 500SC http://goo.gl/flights/2SVK
SEA-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA $1111 420SC http://goo.gl/flights/8hhL
SEA-PHX-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA $1111 480SC http://goo.gl/flights/8hhL <= best I could do $/SC
SEA-DFW-DCA-BOS-ORD-DFW-SEA $1517 540SC http://goo.gl/flights/fACm <= best for 500SC

Hope this helps

You could also consider positioning to another port to take advantage of cheaper starting options.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi guys,

any tips for a status run to hit gold from Melbourne?
I need another 110SC.

Anything good that would be worthwhile?

Cheers
David

Across the Tasman to NZ.
You just need one way across in F, can come back in Y.
Or 2 Js.
How close are you to your anniversary are you?
Whole domestic, you need one way MEL - PER in J which will give 80, coming back can be comfort seat, 2x2=40, equals 120.
Or many small trips MEL - SYD in Y. Cheap, but a long road, ie, 6 returns at 20 each.

Considering MEL-PER is close to $2000 in J that is a very poor suggestion. $25/SC :shock:

MEL-xBNE-CNS in J is a bit under $1100 for 120 SC as an example of an eminently better (though not fantastic) earn.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Moindardt - Thank you
snabbu - I'm open to that if you can find a way of making it work.

So far;
SEA-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA $1111 420SC http://goo.gl/flights/8hhL
SEA-PHX-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA $1111 480SC http://goo.gl/flights/8hhL <= best I could do $/SC

Look pretty good!

Next weekend I'm doing SEA-PHX-ORD-PHX-SEA in a day for $920USD but I booked it some time ago. About 360 SCs I believe.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

^Thanks. Looks like booking far enough out (July) it can be done for about 837USD ($2.35/SC), that's quite tasty. SEA-DFW-ORD-DFW-SEA is looking like 867USD for the same time period ($2.06/SC).

Think the key will be to potentially skip on this round, unless the prices come down last minute, and plan better for next trip in 3 months if still not WP. Would have been nice, but knowing it can be done for about $300USD cheaper if planned better's not a fun status run.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

While I do note that its cheaper to go up from MEL - BNE - CNS, its all in the narrow 737.
MEL - SYD does have some 330s, less than when the 767s flew that route.
MEL - PER does also have a lot of 737s doing the route, (I love the 330s), I would pick them than the 737s.

I don't think the pooch actually bothers to crunch the numbers. All his suggestions almost invariably involve a routing just to fly widebodies/EK trans-Tasman, whatever the cost.

Strangely enough, when people are trying to get SC as cheaply as possible cost is king, not the aircraft type. I'll be picking up 420 SC in a few weeks all in 737s, but at ~$4.20/SC. Might even get to see family along the way, and all in less than 24 hours. I don't care about the aircraft in the least.
