very interested in this... any chance you could see if there's any cheap in June/July with no overnight in CAI....ie airport stop and then turn around few hours later.... are you thinking of doing this yourself ?

can you confirm where i can see the status credits charts for this particular run.....I thought that I would have to go to US to do a run, but this I think may be a bit easier... thanks in anticipation...

Just use the QF calculator: https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/do/dyns/initialPointsEarned

Anybody have any stats on the status run value for $ in US compared to Australia?

Not stats but something like:

US $1.50-3.00
Asia $4.00-$6.00
Oz $8.00-$12.00

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

The US is very reasonable for SCs.

Especially for shorter planed trips. Great value can still be had in the States 30-40 days out from departure.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Oz $8.00-$12.00

That's a fairly standard earn range in Oz. With a bit of work and optimisation it should be possible to get around $7-ish /SC in Australia for a status run.

I was down to about $4 with the NZ sale and 50% status bonus. That is still on for me until 31March. I am so tempted to try for end of April run for this but medical clearance not until 27 April leaving me 3 days - doable unless Haemo says no. What to do....

I'd put your health and wellbeing way before any status credit run.
Given everything that you have been through lately and having to cancel your trips I would contact QF coming up to the end of your year and explain what has happened and see if they will offer you a comp or short challenge.
I'd be astonished if they didn't.

Yes, I managed $4.11 in one direction and $4.3 in the opposite with the 50% SC bonus, and I think a sale fare. Or maybe is was Business direct discount. I think the same route works out around $7.5/SC without the bonus and with discounts.

However, I agree with the other comments about your health being the primary consideration. I wonder if family pause, or whatever it's called, would be something to ask about.

Thank you Jessica for this link....
The trouble with the calculator is that you need to know what "fare type" you are booked in.

Try to work it out with a JL Domestic Class J fare (using just the calculator)?

Although even if you know where to look for this information, I'm sure the descriptions there will still leave you scratching your head - it does that to me, at least.

While I do note that its cheaper to go up from MEL - BNE - CNS, its all in the narrow 737.
MEL - SYD does have some 330s, less than when the 767s flew that route.
MEL - PER does also have a lot of 737s doing the route, (I love the 330s), I would pick them than the 737s.

For the love of.....

you continue to make comments based on your OWN opinion and bias to NZ runs and widebodies.. which is fine for YOU but isn't really helpful to the oft stated point (in this thread) to earn SC's as easily and cheaply as possible. Really do you stop to think of the goal or just what you would do?

Anyway for 110SC here's what *I* would do as a first thought to get it done in a few hours

MEL-xSYD-OOL in J to get 80SC, return on nonstop OOL-MEL in flex Y (30 SC)= 110

cost approx $950

there are probably slightly cheaper runs out there, but this can be done in a day or make a weekend of it in OOL :)

(and one can get a widebody on MEL-SYD if dates picked appropriately :p )

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi All,

I wanted to report back on my status run today, SEA-PHX-ORD-PHX-SEA. I'm stilling in PHX for the second time in the refurbished Admirals Club and I'm dog tired. It's a big day what with a 3:00am wake up for a 5:00am flight - but note for those who mentioned security, it didn't actually open until 04:00. There were long lines but I managed to find a premium line unopened and waited a few minutes, then straight through.

Anyway, make sure you've got the stamina for this kind of whole day run. I'm a dead man walking and am looking forward to flopping into bed back in SEA later tonight.

Oh and you want to be at the gate for boarding 30 mins before, as it gets a bit feral.

Boarding should be fine if you are in F ?

You obviously haven't flown domestic F in America. They take up all the overhead space, they try to steal seats, blankets, pillows, whatever they can get their hands on. It's pretty feral what some of them get up to.
