Fly to the USA next week from $1600 (tip return after 2nd May to save $200 - you'll have enough SC's anyway) Direct from/to BNE, that's 90 SC's (or 45).

Once in LAX, fly LAX-(F)-xCLT-(F)-xMIA-(J)-PTY and return for USD $750 and earn 500 SC's for the round trip..

That can all be done next week for up to AU$2600 ($2400) ...

And if you do LAX- ORD or PHX or SFO to MIA-PTY you get another 20 SCs each way!

There are quite a few other routings that can increase earn (significantly) - but they are not necessarily available next week. Looks like no DFW segments at any reasonable cost.

What I posted get's the 400 ... and is available.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

To clarify, at $10/SC this hardly qualifies for a thread titled "Best status runs".

I guess different people have a different valuation on what a "good" price/value for a SC is

or some just continue to clearly misunderstand the intent of this thread. sigh.

Well, we can't all be getting on that $1/SC bandwagon... somebody somewhere else would have to pay a little bit more for this to be sustainable.

Speaking of which, with the AUD where it is now, I'm starting to look at some intra-Asia opportunities again in my spare time. Not that I use AUD, but there should be some runs available for <$3/SC.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

At $10/SC this is hardly a status run.

Agree with Andy

What's considered good or great value is quite subjective and many previous suggestions here are way above what I consider a good value status run.

I read this thread (and the VA one) for runs/ideas that will give me better than <$9/SC because I fly NTL-BNE-NTL every fortnight and the average SC costs $9-10

Australiapoochie's suggestion have been all over the place but I have used one of his routes. BNE-AKL on EK F on sale

Now, Andy's suggestions of a <$3/SC is the reason I keep following this thread

I would also say that it is highly dependent on the requirements of the person asking. for example, if someone is in MEL or BNE but is only looking for domestic, or "closr" flying, then a value in the $6-$10/SC range is going to be pretty good (IMHO) value, but if they were looking to fly out of say, ORD or somewhere in North America, or Asia, then absolutely the value proposition is very very different due to the numbers of AA or MH(for example) runs available at far lower SC cost...

in other words it's relative

Staying tuned to learn more about those intra-Asia runs...

It's surely getting a lot harder these days though. After the MH restructure, prices have gone up, schedules have been cut, wide bodies made way for narrow ones, and we are still stuck with the annoying "problem" where KUL-BKK is measured as SZB-DMK and is classed as 749 miles. Gone were the days when I could earn 280 SC for $1000 going SIN-NRT and back.

There are some specials ex-HKG at the moment though. For the lazy ones, HKG-xKUL-SIN can be done in 1 day, and you wouldn't need to deal with any dodgy lounges. It's currently around $5.25 per SC. Instead of going to SIN, you can head to a little town on the Borneo island - MYY. It's <5, but requires an overnight stay.

I'm heading out of town this weekend, so I'll look at other places later. BKK is a bummer as mentioned above, but TPE and MNL are conveniently just over 1500 miles away from KUL so there are a few interesting permutations there.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

KUL-CMB is another "add-on" that is useful with MH. CX thinks it is just over 1500 miles.

As well CMB is a good starting point for inexpensive fares.

Happy wandering

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

The CMB-SIN-MEL is still there UL/QF on selected days - 200SCs for ~AUD1000. Not such a great SC run, but at least the trip serves a purpose (ie getting home! :))

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I gather re-positioning flights to take advantage of the $1/SC don't count in the cost ?

I do notice they seem to now al be under $999 return ex-Aust to both USA and Asia

This is only $5 per SC; I'm afraid we only consider runs more than $10 per SC as appropriate for this thread!! ;)

Correct. Positioning flights are not part of the equation when discussing $/SC ratios.

Through QF website?

Is it a multi-city booking or a CBM-MEL that shows up the option of xSIN?

Correct. Positioning flights are not part of the equation when discussing $/SC ratios.

It's probably more that the $/SC is given for a particular set of flight as quoted. Positioning flights are part of the equation when determining value for a run. But as the cost of positioning will vary for each individual it can't be factored when quoting a run. It's up to the reader to consider the positioning part of the equation.

I'd guess Sri Lankan Airlines website

IMO ratio's posted here are with regard to the actual run only, nothing to do with any positioning. The positioning factor comes into account for the individual but here we are talking about availability for everyone between point A and point B, not every single individuals specific requirements of getting to point A.

So no, the positioning has nothing to do with status runs posted in this thread, or any thread, IMO.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I redeem points to position to these places and it would never be in Y. Any long haul Y in association with a status run is just awful

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Apart from positioning costs, there are also costs associated with accommodation if it involves an overnight stay. e.g. TPE-xKUL-HKT is about $860 for 240 SCs. That's a little less than 3.6SC per dollar, but the only way to fly this itinerary involves 2 overnight stays, which makes it rather expensive and impractical. Likewise for TPE-xKUL-BKK, it's a little cheaper, but involves a stay in BKK and KUL. Partly why I didn't bother post them since either someone would need to be in those places and have booked as such, or it's so impractical that hardly anyone would be able to use it. However, going from Thailand to the Philippines appears extremely interesting with only 1 night stay (or may be not, if there's a way to book it).

I'm going to end the year on 1397.5 status credits. So close but so far.....
I'm wondering if adding a comfort seat to an existing BNE-SYD booking would work to get me over the line ?
Is that something you could buy for just one way of the return booking?
