Kendo77, SYD - PER return with QF comfort seat whY will get you 80.
Or flexY non comfort seat return will also give 80.
One way flexY SYD - NZ will give 40 and come back with whY for 20.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Viridianne I have a plan in mind which can give you 200 ASAP.
I leave it to your imagination.
Not cheap but will give you the points in a return flight.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hello, need 60 status points in the next month/six weeks to hit platinum. What would be the most economical way to do it? Thanks
Where are you based?

(terminology: they are status credits) ;)

And that's helpful how?

hmmm...what to do..similar status runs, both require overnight in PTY but one is slightly more expensive but with 4 flat beds...

Any true mileage runner would take the 2nd one without a thought. :)

If your fare rules allow, for an additional 60 SC try and substitute DFW-PHL with DFW-JFK/LGA and PHL-SFO for PHL-DFW-SFO.

unfortunately, that stretches it out into another overnight so makes it not worthwhile

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Has American changed their billing recently? Booked with them back in March and no issues entering Aussie CC, today try and book and demanding US address? Is it back to 'El Segundo' method or am I stuffing something up?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

And that's helpful how?

I think AP feels burnt by the comments here about trans tasman J/F flying so is trying to be a bit subtle.

I'd imagine he's suggesting a J over, F back from MEL/SYD/BNE to get 200 SC. though obviously could be wrong.

With a date to earn by Oct 31, that gives a few months to plan something and wait for some sales to crop up.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi all, quick Q for the brains trust (I assume this is the thread to ask it?); I need 35 miserable little SCs by end June to make gold, ex MEL. I was thinking MEL-OOL-MEL with one of the legs flex fare, which will net 45 SC for about $430. Any better ideas?

I'm thinking you could do this for around $360 by routing MEL-SYD-OOL and v.v. on discount Y. I see $179 one way fares out there on weekends, it may be lower during the week

Another option may be a $132 JQ Jet Starter (though one prob needs a bundle add on for SC's :( ) up MEL-OOL or v.v. then a flex Y OOL-SYD-MEL would could work out about the $400 mark.

with school hols coming up the cheaper seats are harder to find and none of the immediate routes out of MEL that I can think of such as ADL/HBA/LST/CBR/SYD/BNE offer reasonable flex fares to make this work for 35 SC (as opposed to 30).

I suppose a longer sector such as MEL-CNS/TSV/DRW may wind up being cheaper in discount Y but you'd have the sweet spot.

good luck!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi Folks,

First time poster. Looking for some ideas for about 200SC's departing Perth in the next few months. I have a trip coming up to Hobart - any smart ideas on detours along the way to maximise SC's?

Thanks.

Yes I depends on what you are requiring for requal and how desperate you are for lifetime SCs.

Meanwhile, I have spent ages trying to learn how to find these AA runs but am still having trouble getting the system to replicate anything similar on either the AA website or with google flights. Can anyone provide any hints? Happy to PM if you'd rather not broadcast. I'm ideally looking to commence a run from the New York area. Is that my problem?

The better priced runs to PTY tend to originate on the west coast not the east, so there's your problem most likely.

Look back a few pages at my post about ITA Matrix and how to search flights using it, and then the userscript that lets you book most of them direct.

Curious on this, is it one leg with only one overnight in PTY? I've looked at the same routing but can't get it without an overnight in JFK or MIA.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Yes, leave SFO at night time, red eye to JFK, overnight in PTY, arrive at SFO late.

Very useful thanks RichardMEL - just booked MEL-OOL up and OOL-SYD-MEL back for $345 :-) This is my first 'real McCoy' status run :-D
Cheers!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Ironman70, you could go from PER - SIN with the QF 737, whY and then see Asia with the various incarnations of J* all over Asia, (plus bundle paying extra to earn QFF points and QF SC), and come back with QF from SIN via SYD/MEL/BNE with QF's own metal or with EK metal and QF flight number SIN - MEL, then dom back to PER.
In Dec, there are a few days a week where QF flies a 330 from PER - AKL, not bad, the 330 and then you can fly back with EK metal QF flight number AKL/CHC - MEL/SYD back to PER, but have to ask, when is your anniversary date/(month)?
OR if you only want dom you could stop in ADL, then essential stop in MEL/SYD then to HBA.
Edit: PER - ADL (D class business) 60 SC
ADL - MEL (D class business) 40 SC
MEL - HBA (D class business) 40 SC
All one way (very expensive), will give you 140 SC, return will give you our 200 SC plus 80 SC spare towards LTS/LTG.
Cheaper Y class will give you less SC on this trip to HBA.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

So, I've gone ahead and booked a PTY run to make the last hurdle to WP with one night in PTY.

For those seasoned PTY travellers, what should I be worried about when coming back into MIA? I understand some customs officers may think I'm a drug runner or similar due to the odd nature of the travel.

While not a seasoned PTY traveller or intl mileage runner, I can confidently say that you will be fine. CBP agents in the US are used to seeing some crazy things from mileage runners.

MIA shouldn't be an issue, I've come through there after a single day in Mexico without a comment.
