re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hello all,

Can 190 SC be earned ex-SYD in a weekend, for reasonable cost? Trying to plan a SC run sometime in November as I'll be 190 off WP at the end of the year.

Thanks!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

YVR-PTY has some really good fares at the moment. I can find and price a run that gives 90c USD or $1.19 AUD/sc... for 880 sc's.

over how many days? and workable connection times ? can you see anything around 16/11/16 - 20/11/16...

please PM me if possible....otherwise any suggestions within US for 1100 over 3 days around this time.
I've read every page in this thread, but the game changes with so many permutations etc...etc..
Would prefer workable connections..too old to be running from gate to gate...and within mainland if possible.
realise costs will vary but should still be cheap around this thanks-giving time. Will be in ORD but can easily transfer to wherever to commence S/R

Thanks for any help you can give....

Can you confirm what a reasonable cost is for you? It's a bit subjective, or perhaps just cheapest or do you have any points to contribute?

Matt

Hmm ... 880 x $1.19 ≈ AU$1050.

Is that with the +++ reduced via conjuction tickets?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Excellent, now I need these routes and fares to stay until September 2017...I'll be based in GEG for holidays :D

Just booked some trips:

DFW-MCO-MIA-ORD-BOS 300SCs for US$614 US$2.05 per SC.

ORD-DFW-PHX-GEG 270SCs for US$488 US$1.81 per SC.

GEG-PHX-SFO 130SCs for US$277 US$2.13 per SC.

GEG-PHX (90SCS) is a happy hunting ground and can get quite cheap when continuing to/from other destinations, especially ORD for some reason.

Sadly the US AA site doesn't seem to want to accept Australian credit card addresses so I had to temporarily relocate to the Californian suburb of El Segundo Zip code 90245 with my Australian street address in the other fields.

So far the above have been ticketed with no problems.

Yes approx $1100 AUD.

You can't reduce the +++ on international tickets. No ZP tax is charged and US tax is international US tax (the same tax code is used for both domestic and international).

Does GEG get many good status run options?

I was there last month and it would have been helpful, I'll be going back quite often for the next few years so that will be helpful.

I did the ORD run last year as well so I guess keep looking and hoping is the only answer.

If silver member about 250sc...... What is the cheapest status run to get to GOLD? Cost and flights required?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Fly QF via xx_-xMEL/SYD/BNE-LAS/DFW/SFO and reverse. That gives you at least 110 SC's and 4 ~ flights.

For the remaining 140 SC's any 2 segments and one over 750 miles in AA first can be had for not "that much".

LAX-DEN earns 90 SC's being over 750 miles.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Did my PTY run over the Labor Day long weekend here in the States...started out well...everything ran on time and arrived in Panama. Very nice Transcon Business and 777-200 new Business class from JFK-MIA. Did a trip to the Canal, went back for a sleep at the Aloft and then caught an early flight back to MIA. No issues at customs and immigration. MIA-JFK delayed by an hour which was no issue as I would of still made my connection, though I wanted to be put on an earlier JFK-LAX flight. Nice 767 Flat bed business class too. Boarded and ready to go in Transcon F for JFK-LAX - mechanical issue with the plane - delayed for 4.5 hrs meaning I would miss my connection from LAX-SFO which was the last flight of the day. Could not get on the direct flight in F/J (they offered to boot someone off for me in Y lol) and could only get on a marginally earlier flight to LAX so took that and they provided a hotel at LAX (which I can even get SPG stay credit for). Caught an early flight out the next day to SFO. AA IRROPS handling is terrible...had to mostly figure it all out myself with the help of the Admiral's club agents.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

SYD to NZ one way F and J back gives 200 QF SC for about $2500.
Approx $12.50 per QF SC in one trip on one weekend.
Very expensive yes I know but meets requirements.
Am on Android phone so cant link to colleague who asked this question.
EDIT: for Alek - If you don't want to do TT (TransTasman), then its J all over Aust. In one weekend, its a long hard odyssey. If over 2 weekends, not that bad.
Cost will also be a factor.
SYD - BNE - PER - ADL - MEL - SYD.
BNE - PER in J or whJ will earn the most.
Do a play around with the QF miles flown points earn QF SC earn calculator.
QF also does not let you do more than 2 sectors a day, so you might have to do SYD- BNE on a late Fri, then first flight BNE - PER Sat, PER - ADL mid afternoon getting to ADL night (overnight), then Sun contiune back to SYD.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Does anyone know if a 'stopover' can be added/forced on QF domestic bookings. E.g. looking at doing the OOL-ADL return in J going via Melbourne on the way there. Can a 48 hour stopover be forced in Melbourne or will I have to book a return OOL-ADL and then do a separate ADL-MEL return between. I will be using a voucher so the multicity option is out.
