Actually come to think of it, we did get amenity kits on QF45/46, so that's probably Qantas just being inconsistent. Definitely no PJs though.

Not too bad, although as they're 737s on a relatively short leg, the experience more like a domestic J flight (no PJs, only some seat recline, basic toiletries). The IFE malfunctioned on the return and the attendants has to resort to handing out magazines from a stash they had, but I'm sure that's an irregular occurrence. If you like overnight flights and can deal without a lie-flat, you'll have a fine time. The hotel airport wasn't bad, either.

Those flights aren’t all that great. No amenity kits. Y pax continually use J toilets. They even queue for them. Crew was great last time but not the first time. Meals have improved since first trip too. The lounge not so great. I didn’t even know there was an Emirates Lounge I could have gone to!

I think it's stupid if you don't get at least amenity kits in J. As far as I'm concerned they should also be offered trans-Tasman. And PJs should be part of the deal too. It's a night flight.

I'm looking for 140 SC's by the end of November. Kicking myself I missed the recent DSC (both of them even!) for this.

Anything good floating around?
Brisbane preferably but can get to Sydney/Melbourne if needed easily.
It's hard to get "good" at such shortish notice.

For $825 one way you can fly BNE-SYD-WLG in late November to pick up 120 SC and return in economy for NZ$300 and earn another 30.

Yeah I thought I might be in a bit of trouble. Will check that out. Cheers.

How many status credits do you need? You could do SYD-xMEL-DPS (QF) + DPS-xKUL-MNL (MH) for 920 SC if you book the QF flights during DSC. Should come in under $3k.

sbor90 I really like this approach - its taken me 20 years to get the 11,693 (LTS) 80% domestic Y - hard yards
Haven't flow much for the past 4 years and want to make a push for LTG over the next 12 months or so
QF status reset date March 31st 2019 current SCs 0 Current flights 0

Reading recent entries within this thread and the status run thread I assume I wait till the next DSC prob Feb and book the above 920 SC run then spend my next status year going WP to reach LTG

A couple of Qs
1. Is it worth waiting for the next DSC or will by then the SYD-MEL-DPS (currently around $2k AUD RT ) increase as I only have till March 31st?
2. Is it worth booking the DPS-xKUL-MNL now for late march or in your experience will those sub $1k return fares be around then?
3 The other 20% earned through YUPP AA fares from HNL years ago so that was my initial thoughts but tings have changed on AA and real J seems much easier o the body - comfort runs :)

any suggestions appreciated

I doubt QF's cheap DPS/CGK fares are going anywhere, but there's no certainty of another DSC before March 31st.

Out of curiosity, if you have 0 SC at the moment and no flights booked, why the rush to earn before your membership anniversary? I'd recommend pushing the earn into April/May instead so you reach WP for the remainder of that membership year, and the full year following (i.e. until March 2021)

Ex DPS MH J sale fares regularly come and go - there will almost certainly be a sale fare to *somewhere* for booking next year, it may not be Manila though.

Amenity kits are handed out on Trans-Tasman flights.

Yep you are correct I don't - my thinking was entering the new year with no status means no lounge access but travelling J will negate that so thank you, my vision has now changed - less pressure, plenty of time, less risk and 2 WP years - cheers

Hey all

Is the turnaround possible from SYD-MEL QF405
arrives at 8.05am
To be able to return on MEL-SYD QF488 departs at 8.45am ?
Same ticket, no luggage.

Or am I being daft?

Assuming no delays should be fine. Given it's on one ticket, you're protected in case of a delay on the incoming flight anyway.

In my spare time over the last few weeks I've played around with scraping MH deals straight into a spreadsheet which does forex + SC calculations. Here's a bit of a sneak peek - as expected DPS and BKK are good starting points along with the current TPE sale.

If anyone is after the best deals from a particular city feel free to PM me and I'll send you a filtered output.

If that is something you do on a regular basis, sharing it via Google Sheets would be very much appreciated.

Wasn't planning to make the sheet publicly accessible at this point but I'm more than happy to help with specific requests and will continue posting when MH launch promotions from certain cities.

So basically start in Bali, Taipei or Bangkok and all multi leg flights to foreign destinations or secondary Malaysian cities

At the moment yes, although TPE is generally not a great starting point when not on sale.

DPS-LGK seems to be a constant $1.90-$2.20/SC year round - and both great places to start/finish at holiday! Pretty hard to beat :)

Not sure if things have changed in the last 12 months since I’ve done that route but the departure from DPS around midday is the only one on the A330 which is far superior to MH’s 738. Likewise for the return the early flight out of KUL
