Very creative. Looks good apart from the MEL-DPS being on a 737 and there is no way I could do an overnight on one anymore
Can go via SYD instead of MEL both ways for a couple extra hundred. Depends how much you want to spend. Same with how long you stay in DPS for.

Hello all, what is the cheapest way to maximise this QF DSCs offer to move from Red to Gold flying from Brisbane?

Would love some help if someone can assist, looking to go from 0 to 700+ over a weekend (eg leave Saturday and return Sunday), using the DSC offer. Based in MEL. Any suggestions for a status run?

One option is booking BNE MEL DPS MEL BNE in J for $1962 (720 SC) next Saturday, and booking separate MEL BNE MEL in Y, JQ or even a Classic Reward.

Will look into that option thanks. Wanted to avoid re-positioning if possible but if its in Y or using a classic reward it could be worth it.

HBA-SYD-AKL 26 May Rtn 29 May
AKL-BNE-MEL-DPS 27 May Rtn 28 May
$4500 + 1 night accom in Bali for 1520 SC Flown + 150 bonus = 1670 SC ($2.70/SC)

Edit: Is possible to do a 1hr connection in Bali, but I wouldn’t be confident.
One thing to note is that I don't believe the DSCs count toward the loyalty bonus I.e. the 50 after 500 SCs.

Question on when is best to do the run. In currently silver and need 305 SC to reach Gold and my membership year ends on 30 April 2020. Is it best to wait to do the run in May? What's the benefit of before or after? Thanks

That's purely up to you. Logically, it may make more sense to do before so you have gold for the following year and then only need 600 to requal. If you do in May you need the full 700 starting from scratch so not really sure the premise of the question.

Cost wise. Before May I need 305. After I need 700 SC. If I do before May, I'll need to get the status again anyway, so I essentially save myself the need to get 200 SC (if I'm happy to stick with Silver for now). Once I am Gold, it makes sense to ensure it is retained though.

Assuming you can qualify for the full amount (700 SC), it is better to wait until May, because then you will get to keep your Gold status until Apr 2022 - so basically two years worth of being Gold.

If you qualify in Apr, you will only keep it until Apr 2021.

Now, suggestions for 0-700 based out of SIN?

DPS-SYD-MEL return in J will get you 320 SCs, so 640 with DSC. Around A$2000-$2500.

Jetstar Asia SIN-DPS return with a max bundle would get you the remaining 60 SCs. You'd have to do it as two bookings though, otherwise it would try to sell you the SIN-MEL fare which is much, much higher than DPS-MEL.

Nice. Thank you. I'll check that out. I guess the SC per $ on a London trip over Christmas is not worth it?

I just can't see that gold is worth that much money. The main benefit assuming flying Y is lounge access. You could just buy QP membership and PP for a year and still be financially ahead.

Out of interest, what is considered a "good" cost per SC?
Good question... With so many programmes, which is the one that's most worthwhile becoming a member with status in for OW. Being in SIN, QF or MH makes the most sense due to the number of flights with these airlines.

I’d work on $5/SC being quite good, below that is a bargain. Anything more than $10/SC is a ripoff. These are the pre-DSC amounts, but you expect the same value regardless.

OWS (Sapphire) is where it’s at. There are so many more benifits than Qantas Club. Especially if you are based in SIN you’re more likely to be flying with non-QF ow airlines (MH, CX, BA etc). Qantas club won’t help you at all flying those airlines.

But yes, if you’re doing a status run for more than 10-20% of your desired tier requirement, you’re probably not flying enough to benefit from it once you earn it.

I fly a lot for work but it's all economy of discount economy fares, so it's never quite enough to get the status. So I need to top up a bit. It really makes a difference to have the perks. The priority check-in is a lifesaver when running late from a meeting, and the bags when needing to get out quickly. (And of course the showers after a long day before the flights). It makes travel that much more enjoyable.
