Are there any good J RTW options to use with the DSC promo to say go from MEL to LAX/JFK and to LHR? Obviously only earning DSC on the QF legs for departing after Easter in April and going away for a few weeks?

QF have J Class NZ sale that fits nicely into DSC promotion - fare from DRW to AKL (via MEL or SYD) was around $1166 each way.

I found it cheaper (approx $300) to make 2 separate bookings:

$1,166 DRW-SYD-AKL (160 SC)
$799 AKL-SYD-DRW (160 SC)

$1,965 for 640 SC = $3.07/credit

If you originate out of AKL - theres benefit to be had....

Hi,

I thought I’d try for a status run from Gold Coast or syd to Auckland.
I’d like to do return in one day.

Qantas website not letting me book getting off one flight to then get back on the return flight with same plane

Is it ok to book it as two seperate legs, with only 90 mins time?

Ive never been to NZ, so not sure if I need to clear customs etc

I wouldn’t have any luggage

thanks in advance......obviously need to book tomorrow for DSC run

This looks very promising, thanks for sharing! In my case looks like I can position from MEL to DRW with the times working nicely and just spend a few sleepless hours at AKL.
Just tried many variations of the DPS run but could not get it to work for me.

Another idea would be to position yourself to ADL and fly via BNE to CHC.

If you can't book it then the turnaround time won't be sufficient for QF. I believe that others have been able to turnaround in that time but your trip over won't be relaxing if you're fretting about your arrival.

I'd think you'd be able to

Request at your origin if the check in staff is able to issue both boarding passes (Ideally, they should be able, as long as the travel is on the same day - I have done this for my status runs to NZ from ex-SYD/ex-OOL).

If they're able to, then you can just get off your flight arriving into AKL, walk through International Transit and board your next flight out of AKL

Thanks, will check it out when I get a chance and the clock is ticking. Would be a good change from a stack of WLGs - I couldn’t even seem to do a same-day MEL-SYD-AKL anymore.

I'm pretty happy with my effort. MEL-SYD-OOL as red e-deal and then OOL-MEL-AKL-MEL-OOL in J and OOL-SYD-MEL as same. Doing it over a couple of days and visiting friends in both.

all up 660sc

J flights were 1321. E-deal I brought down to $250 using some points AND I had a $450 AMEX credit.

So 660sc for $1121 out of pocket is not bad.

2 separate complaints lodged via the qantas site.

I am not usually one to have a sook however this is just a joke.

Had time out issues last night and then tried today with multiple failures.

Just received an email with a new PRN saying that a flight was being held until 11:59pm PERTH TIME(Where I am) however it won't let me part pay with points

plus unable to purchase gift vouchers to use on other flights.

forget calling via the phone. 50+ min wait

interesting to note that the complaint numbers are 119 numbers apart and they were made within 52 minutes of each other.

That's 2 complaints per minute to Qantas on a general basis!!!

Given the level of staffing in the QF complaints team that will keep them going for months!

Agree with @sbor90

The way I see it is, if you've got some sort of promo on the SC, then it makes it easier to retain, let's say, Platinum. With DSC, one could retain platinum with a little over two trips across the ditch.

I use this route, SYD-OOL-MEL-AKL-MEL-OOL-SYD. With this routing on a DSC, one would end up with 600 SC with approx A$1400 and can be done in one night ( so no taking time off work or anything like that) . Do this twice and you're good to retain platinum and you've spent A$3000.

With no DSC (or any other offer for that matter), for me personally, it gives very little advantage to do a status run. With no offers on SC, you'd have to take at least 4 A$1400 trips to retain platinum and 5 trips to achieve platinum for the very first time

In most cases, once I've reached my desired SC count, I take Classic Reward seats on the return leg

So today I’m on a status run (which I have never done before) and I managed to get it for $2.87 per SC which was in my “almost impossible” category!

It was CBR->MEL->SYD->DPS (return via same route) - Business Sale for $2500 domestic flights were marked as Flex Business. Of course it’s also DSC.

That’s 820 points plus a 50 Point SC bonus so 870 in total.

So in short my benchmark for “almost impossible” is now $2.50 per SC

You won't get the 50 SC bonus based on this trip. DSC won't count towards it.

The ordinary SC may be in your account prior to wheels up.

For DSC, add a couple of days, from my experience. However, it can be much longer if there are any glitches with crediting (requiring manual intervention). 😀

So, allow for the six weeks.

has anyone received their bonus status credits yet? Completed my eligible domestic flight on day 1 and it still hasn’t come through... it’s been a week almost

Patience Grasshopper. We will see it here, eventually. 😀

Edit: And you may be the first to let us know. 😉

The DSC will count towards the membership year in which you flew. So there's no rush. Obviously it would be better for you to get the DSCs ASAP if that would immediately take you past 1400 SC and you have flights coming up soon.

No need to rush out and do another status run if your membership year is nearly finished.

My year ends 30 Apr so I booked two sets of trips: one end Mar to get me to platinum in current year, second to get me off to good start in next in May.

ool-mel-akl-syd-ool

I’ve got trip with MH on 03 Apr. I intend to call QF service centre if they can post DSCs prior to travel so I may use QF F and MH first lounges
