Make a spreadsheet to track your ORC claims, and be persistent. You will get the SC as booked.
Is this certain? I have a booking SYD-MEL-AKL in November and they advised me last night it had been cancelled. I have the option of a direct flight, but am chasing the SC.
The only flight is the day prior, which doesn't help as it is the day after a wedding🍾.
I'd take the direct flight the original day if I could make sure I got them damn SC.

Yes, if you are persistent.
What does persistent look like in this case?

Could it take months and several emails and phone calls? If successful, do they usually just credit the normal SC and you have to start the process again to chase the DSC?

I am trying to work out if it's easier to try and get my original routing back or if I just claim ORC.

I have a 100% success rate of requesting ORC.
Same for me - have made several a claims over the years

The last was an LAX-MEL-SYD. The aircraft diverted to SYD and because my final destination was SYD, I got off at SYD, the bags went via MEL.

Could it take months and several emails
Pre pandemic, it was one phone call and ORC SC in 1 day

Send a clear email including BPs and itinerary as booked to [email protected]. Wait 1-2 weeks. Call QFF team, you may get credited on the spot (likely for QF flights) or asked to supply BPs again (likely for partner flights). Supply documentation again because QFF team are useless/can't see docs on original email. Wait 2-3 days, call again and explain you've tried several times to get these credited and would like the issue escalated. SC usually gets credited at this point if not earlier.

My me, it looked like this: Difficulties obtaining Original Routing Credit. The view was not pleasant.

Does this still works even tho the flight is so far away?
I'm afraid they will refuse because it has been so long therefore I had plenty of time to cancel or reschedule.

Yes.

With the extension announcements (details to be confirmed), will people look into cancelling DSC status runs (especially the NZ ones) scheduled for later this year? Or still do it for the fun of it and count the DACs towards the lifetime tail?

My DSC Award (with PC) booking is scheduled for the week after my year ticks over on 1 October. Will need to wait and see the deets of the extension, if indeed it's in addition to what's already offered - I am actually keen for the holiday that's associated with it, and am now considering a run for WP, so it will depend on that.

Anyone hitting the cancel button right now would be brave in my book.

I don't think any of the recent status retention offers have been unconditional and I'm suspecting this time will be no different.

There's a $200 cancellation fee so I won't be cancelling mine.
oh! good point - I was somehow under the impression that you can still cancel for free. Did that thing end for bookings by 31 December 2021?

I think for international you can do fee free date changes where you just pay the fare difference, but that's a different thing to cancelling.

Hi All, (Post edited)

Sorry if I have missed this in a previous post but thought my experience might be of interest to some.

In May 2022 I did a OWA in J, I did 12 sectors with a mix of Qantas, Malaysian, Qatar, BA, AA and Air Canada (Qantas flight canceled they moved me to Air Canada)

**

Post edited to hide the glitch, private message me if you want to know the handy glitch with the OWA and Points Club Plus

It was a glitch and you may want to edit out a bit of info to help it remain that way. You weren't the only one to experience this though, another member posted a similar story about 4-6 weeks ago.
