The F bed/suite has much more space and is a much better bed than in J.
Then again there are also other reasons to book F...
There are definitely reasons to book F, but this is a SC run thread and in the context of a SC run, CR F makes very little sense.

Yeah, one of the nice things about living in BNE/MEL is the extra 20 status credits :p

I'm trying to decide whether I want to do the whole
SYD-xBNE-xMEL-AKL-xMEL-xBNE-SYD thing...
My friend did CBR-MEL-SYD-HND in the last DSC from 2022. It was a bit stressful for her as flight delays on the first 2 flights caused her to be very close to missing the international flight. We were travelling together but the Seats just went CBR-SYD-HND (wanted more time in F Lounge!) So we were also stressed that our travel companion would not arrive. Fortunately for her there were 15+ pax coming from MEL so QF held up departure. We were on board waiting for her to arrive, and she was pretty flustered when she did. Then she used her AirTags to notice that her luggage hadn’t made it over to international in time. Even more stressed. But then, there was a weather delay on departure (which wouldn’t have happened if we left at scheduled time) and her bags did make it after all. We were all in need of a pre-departure beverage by then.

She did it to click over to SG, and with the various roll overs from that and other bookings she will make WP this year. So yes, it was worth it for her, but if you like less stress, maybe not 😆😆.

I would have liked to have booked a status run to retain WP during the DSC, but maybe next year I will do a run or two to get WP back. At least there's a soft landing back to SG.

There's certainly a balance between trying to maximise the SC earn per dollar spent, and minimising the number of connections to minimise any stress.

Yes the old “why go direct when you can connect” has new implications in today’s flying environment. Living in Canberra, any international flight requires a connection for us, and I admit to feeling quite nervous about these until I am on board the final leg. I used to love the adventure, but these days, not so much!

I'm sure it's been asked before but I can't find via search:

I have no problem with SCs to qualify but need my 4x QF/JQ segments: how do I ensure JQ starter fares are counted? I can't see where to add QFF details to JQ booking.

On the JQ website? There is an option of where to credit the flight - Jetstar voucher or Qantas points. Then you enter your QFF number

Do you mean during the booking process? I already have purchased tickets - can't see this option in MMB.

You can only add your QFF number if you purchased a Plus or a Max bundle at the time of booking.

If you only purchased the basic Starter fare then it will not count towards the 4 segments. You cannot add a Plus or Max bundle after you have purchased the Starter fare.

Bugger. I did ask the jetstarGPT assistant to add my QFF number and then got an email saying it had been added (mentioned my PNR and QFF specifically) but not sure if that means anything will actually happen.

Hi sqrt(),

Success! We have updated your Qantas Frequent Flyer number ####### in your booking AA11AA.

To view your Qantas Frequent Flyer points, please click here.

We look forward to welcoming you on board.

Always thought that even purchasing a JQ starter fare would count towards the 4 flights for status...

Looks like it has to be a status earning flight, thus why Qantas CR flights with PC always counted for me.

Semi-related question - is it true that Jetstar Japan (3K) counts towards the 4 required QF-group flights?

The 3K website only mentions earning JAL Miles on Plus or Max bundles. Do you get the option during booking to credit to QFF instead?

I just requested the (starter fare) itinerary and it now shows my QFF number. I have previous starter fares in that show up as below (I believe I added this one after flying), so they can appear on the activity statement.

Bit of a rookie Q (which I'm sure has been answered somewhere on this site that I can't find):
- What is the reasoning behind so many SC runs originating in OOL? Wouldn't BNE be better for J Lounge access, more flights and same earn on routes as OOL?

Are there a number of reasons? I must know!

As Mattg said and he should know, he 'wrote the book' (or at least the latest article)! The best routes vary - previously it used to involve TSV and, on the other side of the country, KTA - had a couple of fun runs that way. Going to DRW was fun. Never did NOU.

If I could get anything for the best value, I'd take something out of SYD for the Flounge, which I'd only have to do once - preferably on the EK A380!

That would make sense. Just wondering if there is some other secret sauce I am missing.

The other "secret sauce" is that when flying from OOL to MEL in business class, you get 60 status credits as it's over 750 miles (compared to 40 status credits on routes like SYD-MEL).

BNE-MEL earns the same as OOL-MEL but it's often more expensive to start in Brisbane (even if your final destination is actually somewhere in New Zealand).
