Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

U is the booking class for Classic Business Awards. When booking the "cheap" Business Any Seat Awards (referred to by a generic acronym of JASA - where the "J" comes form the J booking class for full-freight business class) they book as U class. I guess we could refer to them as UASA, but that gets confusing, and we would have to include DASA and IASA a well (and don even start on the YASA variants).

Classic ?? does that mean I booked a classic award instead of a any seat award ? . I hope not I'm after the SC's !

"U" is from the classic award fare bucket inventory for Business (P for First, X for Economy), however when ASAs are bought from that fare bucket, they will still earn points and SCs. The advantage is they are cheaper than ASAs from the other more expensive "revenue" buckets.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Have my first status run next Tuesday as well and I am in the same situation curiost where I have a 45 min flight connection in HBA but I am quite confident it is the same plane.

QF560 0645 - 0735 CBR-SYD
QF1019 0925 - 1115 SYD-HBA
QF1020 1200 - 1350 HBA-SYD
QF771 1520 - 1615 SYD-CBR

I'm doing the above status run, it will be my first flights ever in J. I have always used mobile check in but should I check in at the airport to make use of priority check in. And if I do, will I be issued 4 boarding passes? That would be quite odd for the check in staff haha

Why not check in online and use your QFF card to board? That's what I did when doing my runs... minimise the chance of using the wrong boarding pass :)

I did the (re-)inaugural SYD-OOL last year from MEL, return. Four BPs came out of the machine, and I had to ask the check in agent not to separate them. You could do the same for the 'unusual factor' and then use your FF card for the boarding process.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I just finished my first status run yesterday SYD-ADL-SYD-OOL-SYD. The best thing was telling the crew what I was doing on the first flight, so with the same crew on the return flight, actually made it great fun!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Did my first JASA status run today, Syd-xBne-Tsv. It was nice being in business for a change, the CSM service is definitely a step up. There was a dooshbag next to me texting mid-flight between Bris-Tne. texting!! I told him off but he just looked at me, didn't say anything and then turned around again. What an idiot. The one thing that I wasn't prepared for was the sheer volume of food on offer, 4 flights + 4 lounges and right now I'm feeling like a whale. I didn't even realise I ate so much, but it was a full day of eating no joke.

The few of the CSMs on the turn around were like "didn't you just step off", I told them what I was doing and one of them had some awareness that people do this but the others were quite intrigued at my behavior. It became a bit of a running joke. I'm glad I did it on a weekday, the Tsv lounge was so packed I had to stand because all the seats were taken (although I thought the food selection was markedly better than even the business lounges in Sydney and Brisbane). That's it for at least a year!

If he's getting service midway between BNE and tsv, I wanna which carrier he's with cos I'd love to have mobile reception at cruising altitude!

I was curious as to the range a mobile phone would have. Being that the question seems to be answered starting "line of sight..." and excluding the skin of the aircraft this would be true from cruise altitude (say up to 11000m, 11km). The ranges I've found on a quick search on the net seem to indicate up to a max 35km range (this is the max for GSM standard apparently)....in a perfect world of course. Excluding geographical location issues (ie an area covered / not covered)...mythbusters says its plausible! Whether AUS carriers support such ranges...who knows but them, but maybe in areas of few or sparsely separated towers? Anyhow...food for thought on that point :)

I know the feeling! But you can choose *not* to eat all the meals :P On my final sector, I just settled for coffee because I was stuffed!

Anyhow...food for thought on that point :)

Maybe the person in question was texting and saving to draft?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

The texter way pressing the send button on cruising but kept getting the error message of not being able to send. He then repeatedly kept trying to resend a bunch of texts and gave up but started the whole process again on descent until we got close enough to ground that the texts went through. He was talking on the phone the minute the plane hit the ground. I repeat again, total idiot!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Is there any better J-ASA from PER?

So far have found PER-MEL-CNS then CNS-SYD-PER for 72,000pts. This will give me 320sc and with the DSC offer, it will be 640sc.

Should I go through SYD or MEL for PER-CNS? Expert flyer is showing the CNS-MEL and MEL-PER flights, and vice versa as 80%+ on time. Whereas, CNS-SYD is only 70% on time. Is there less chance of a delay going through MEL?

2 things to consider, which may or may not be important to you. 1. If on the red-eye, PER-SYD is slightly longer than PER-Mel. 2. Chance if getting a 767 on CNS -SYD flight (the 9ish one I think), rather than just 737 from Mel.

Delays- are you doing the flights as turnaround? The flight from Mel is a turnaround aircraft, and so is both SYD flights. Which sector/connection are you most concerned about a delay on?

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Not doing a turnaround. Planning to stay one night in cairns. If per-mel is delayed, then I could miss the connection to Cns, and there is only one flight a day, so could be stuck in Mel! Same goes for per-syd. The 737 flight from mel-Cns seems to be more on time than syd-Cns in the 767

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I was in 2F. Were you doing a trip report? I saw you take some photos of the meal.

I was glad it was a light load so I got both 2E & 2F to myself. QF971 on the way back was full in J.

No, just taking photos. You missed out on lots of fun in Townsville. Bus trip through the burbs, Townsville Bitter at The Brewery and a walk around town.

I considered getting QF975 back so I could spend a couple hours on the beach but didn't want to risk not getting back to SYD before curfew in case of delays. I needed to be back at work on Wednesday as I was "sick" on Tuesday.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Just wondered if anyone wold be able to suggest a run out of Melbourne worth around 120 sc.
Ideally , nothing requiring too many points.....and Im happy to supplement with a few ~$$

Many thanks

Re: Best Status Run Options - Questions and General Discussion

Take cheapies to/from HBA/CBR then do the JASA via SYD. Bingo - 120 SC for a net 12K QFF points and maybe $350 ...
