Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

If you stick to MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL, assuming availablility, then you won't have any problem as the same plane turns around at ASP.

Note also that you'll get more SCs for this before the end of June, after which SYD-ASP drops from 80 to 60. Still meets your 190 SCs threshold, though.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi folks

every little bit is going to count with retaining my platinum status next year under the new rules - I have a "free" QF domestic flight each year thanks to my Amex, am I right in thinking that at discount economy earn rates from MEL, PER gets me the maximum SCs at 20 each way, or is there a better option ex MEL?

TIA

Is it a single flight? Could you book a PER ticket but with a transit stop. MEL xADL PER return would give 30SC each way. 50% increase!

I think it's a single flight, but I will definitely check - thanks for the suggestion :-)

Be careful with status runs.... You'll end up never flight non-stop to a destination again!

Yes, like my recent flight from HNL to MCO via SJU, PHX, PHL and DFW, for example ;-)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

.. I need to do some status run bookings post June 30 '14 to maintain current Gold status. I was a little confused about ASAs and/or JASAs but I gather they are gone now(?). Can I still use the flight examples in the s/sheet quoted in a lot of threads or the examples embedded in posts to maximise SCs? If so what is the best way to book these post June '14?

The flights in the spreadsheet are all based on using points. That option is no longer available so you will be using cold hard cash for the flights.

It is still useful for see how many SCs a flight will earn, though.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Incorrect - it's not supposed to - but flick the Sabre booking over to Amadeus by phoning QF and hey presto...;).

Hi John

not sure what you mean here.
Can you please explain or send me a private post. Thanks

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thank you ... what is "Pay and Pay"? Am I right that ASAs are no longer available or can I ring Qantas still to get these?

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

"Pay and Pay" is just my play on all cash, sorry.

The good-value ASAs are gone for good. The ASAs (or Points + Pay; QF itself doesn't really know what to call them) that are still available online value the points very badly, to the point where you'd be better off paying cash instead of using your points in most cases.

My pennies worth reckons it betterv to either use CLASSICS or buy an Economy and take the chance with a points upgrade
