Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

So it's actually cheaper to fly twice with the LA code than the QF code? Wouldn't that earn the same SCs if I'm not mistaken?
LA flight numbers earn the same number of SCs (80 each way) as QF until 30 June only, then the new rates apply - a measly 40. :(

I just filled out the QFF survey, and putting down honestly how I felt about it - while I'm inside a QF lounge.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Where does one find these mythical $700 return J fares? All I ever see are $1,600-800 on the QF booking engine. :(

Keep away from any Australian website, especially QF's! Seriously though, your best bet is the LAN US or European site. LAN's availability is pretty good year-round, and it's not often you see prices much higher than the $700-odd. That being said, even at the higher price of around $900 it still represents good value. Only downsides are the early departures and overnight requirement in AKL.

Definitely not mythical. I have one already booked for June.

Me too - at the usual el cheapo price. Last chance for some trans-tasman status runs before simplification day!

I just wish I had known about this sooner! For the same price as EK Y I could've flown LA J the last time I visited AKL - and earned SCs to boot! :(

I'm very tempted now to do 2 x SYD-AKL-SYD to get QF Gold...

From how I understand the new earn system:
  • SYD-SIN on QF: East Coast Australia to SE Asia: Discount Economy: 30 SC, 2600 Points
  • SIN-CMB on QF: Miscellaneous - Mid-range International 2: Discount Economy: 20 SC, 1100 Points

Added together is 50 SC and 3700 Points. Double that for the return journey and you get 100 SC and 7400 Points.

The SIN/CMB one is a guess, based on the zone distance definitions that I grabbed off the QF website before it was obfuscated away.

Thanks !
Yeah, I guess I should have specified that I got the SYD-SIN one it was the second SIN-CMB bit which I couldn't work out.

Do note that this only applies if the ticket was booked after 27/28/29 March (whichever date they decide to pick). The old system is in use for bookings prior to this date.

Might as well do it - only 5 weeks left before they halve the SCs on that flight! If you're lucky, QF Hotels will do another "9 points per $1" deal next month so you can grab easy points to soften the blow of having to stay at least one night in AKL. That points bonus was another reason I chose to do a double run next month - minimum 7138 points for an NB (and obviously more for higher status).

Throw in an additional handful from QF Cash for paying in USD (at least 730 odd for the flight and 170 odd for the hotel; double that between now and June 20th) and you've got a nifty return from a single trip. It's not necessarily the best return for points vs cash spend, but a few extra points don't hurt if you're also booking a last-minute ASA ;)

Probably best to stay at the Novotel Auckland Airport, which a) helps with the stupid o'clock departure, and b) is a very good hotel IMO.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I missed the Hotels points promo - that was one great promo! A shame though that the Novotel Auckland Airport isn't a listed property.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Unless you had a specific trip in mind, I think most would have missed/not taken advantage of it; the offer was only up for 48 hours last week.

Another "enhancement" to QF's booking system; it only appears when you search Auckland Airport. For some reason it doesn't show when you search Auckland itself

I actually saw the promo but missed taking advantage of it as I didn't have my travel plans sorted yet. :(

Ah legend! Thanks!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Did this one on the election weekend FOR 520 SC

SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD-AKL-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD (Fri-Sun)

I had to book it in two legs: SYD-BNE-TSV return(48K points/ $349.16) and TSV-BNE-AKL-BNE-TSV (72K points/$886.22)

It was pretty draining but at least I got out of the country for the election - although I was seated next to Tanya Plibersek (I was in 1C she was in 1D) on the BNE-SYD flight on the Friday.

How do you find the cheap SYD-BNE-TSV runs like that?

Am looking at doing one on 31st May and they are like $2200 or 200k points plus cash

Are you pricing this up on QF's website? MASA pricing can only be obtained by ringing QF up.

that would be where I am going wrong......

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi everyone,

Need your advice.

I am 190 SC short of attaining gold status. I have abaout 136k points, and keen to do a status run (either paid or using points) before the end of August.

What is the cheapest option out there to get 190 points (either paid or using ff points)?

Apologies if this has been asked - I just browsed through the last 10 pages and didn't see any recent suggestions.

(departing Melbourne btw, and no issue flying weekday, red eye etc).

Thanks!

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

You probably want to look at this topic then: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....essful-asa-bookings-booked-classic-53677.html

There a very handy Excel spreadsheet - link in post #1. ;). See line 200 as an example - could be just what you need (or 206, 208 or 213).

You'll want to have spent any points on xASA's by 30 June (for flights up to your membership year date - sounds like August) to get the SC's. Beyond 1 July, it'll be paid bookings only (so you may as well head to this topic: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....program/best-qf-status-run-options-59156.html)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks QF WP,

Pardon my newbieness.. but assuming I want to book a similar fair to row 200, do I need to book it as any seat award? Or Classic Award? Or Any seat award as classic through the call centre?

Do you reckon it's feasible to fly MEL-ADL-ASP-SYD-MEL in one day?

Option 3 - you'll need to read the "sticky" thread in this Forum.

Haven't done this run, but a search on QF website should tell you.

If you stick to MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL, assuming availablility, then you won't have any problem as the same plane turns around at ASP.
