Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

You could go ADL - SYD - AKL - US, ADL to AKL via SYD with QF and QF's Jetconnect, the AKL to the US with AA. Does take a bit longer, but you will earn a bit more SC going via NZ, (yes, I do realise that there are disadvantages to this long way around trip).
Try to get as many flights wtih QF as you, ie, with a QF flight number, or at the least with a OW airline.
From AKL you could go LA(N) to South America, and then up to the US.
In whY you won't earn plenty of SC though, higher classes/more stops, you earn more SC.
QF have a SC calcuator on their website.

So, for S&G I actually did a multi-city booking on the OP's dates to try and see if qf.com would make this happen.

now, ignoring the fact that going ADL-SYD-AKL-LAX on QF/AA would involve at least one overnight, as SYD-AKL misconnects to AKL-LAX (so you could fly ADL-SYD-AKL on one day via the evening SYD-AKL, overnight in AKL and then AKL-LAX) I priced it at $2151 for Sep 12/26 rethrn (return I just used LAX-ADL, which offered up a connection via MEL) vs a sale fare of $1551ish for just plugging in ADL-LAX r/t - it's not as outrageous as I thought, at least in Y, but very inconvenient with at least one overnight involved.

I didn't bother working out the SC earn difference but I doubt it's more than 40 or 50 for that itin, and thus probably not even worth the extra $$$ and time (including overnight in AKL) to do.

Cain has indicated there's ample wiggle room in their itin (eg: between say Sep 19 and 26th) to do a run within the USA, which would be far more cost effective than what you're suggesting (in my view, anyway).

I would agree that if someone is to do a run in the US, it would usually be best to head over there as cheaply and quickly as possible. Rather than having to overnight somewhere else, you could possibly use that night during the run which can result in a better earn. I suppose one doesn't do a run in the US just to earn gold - the aim would be the next tier.

Cheers for this info guys.

Also fam is heading over to london next week. Are there many SC run options in Europe? They got 5 Weeks.

Thanks to everyone here I am working on upping SC,s. MIA -CLT was delayed 4hrs (terminal change-3gate changes and u/s aircraft made for an interesting layover! ) i was o/n in CLT which when booking thought stupid but ended up being a blessing. I so miss the QF lounge where you can just sit and wait in comfy until it's all fixed. My metal work was killing me - I think the screws need adjusting When I get back $$ I have emailed AA to express my disappointment at delay too..

JER-LGW-MLA return in Club Europe (BA J)
LON-MAD-xx_ which can be any Spanish city accessible on IB is also good in J
Otherwise you're looking at an ex-EU across to the US.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Are there any domestic runs within LOTFAP? I would prefer it if I could avoid leaving/entering the US again.

Probably the most important is HLO or have somewhere you can drop your luggage at the start, it will never keep up with you.

I cannot emphasise this enough! My bag hasn't shown up 4 of the 6 times I've checked it on AA flights within the last 12 months. The worst one was a 10-day wait to get it back.

The only upside being that I've now got a new wardrobe courtesy of AA ;)

hi galah - I have been lucky then on this trip (touch wood) and I've done a combination of HLO and checked. I've just had a couple of long delays

I've been lucky too - over the past three years I must have done 20+ flights on AA all with checked luggage and they've not lost a single bag!

That's happened with me on Qantas but 2 out of 6 times. Used the old insurance to fetch some clothes great if your in such area where one can buy clothes.

What's the cheapest way to earn 360 SCs in a single trip?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Might need a bit more information. Such as which continent, and where would you like to start from?

It really depends on what you are looking for and where you will be. I've found some reasonable routings for LAX-PHX-SEA-PHX-LAX (but I want to go to SEA anyway). LAX-DFW-ORD-DFW-LAX can sometimes be good value for 360SC's, and you can get some 787/777 legs for lie-flat seats.

Rourke posted a good tip over here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....s-run-options-quick-35258-31.html#post1480251.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hi All,

Based in London and need advice to retain SG. Need 310 SC before Feb please - nothing too outrageously expensive would be great!

On a side note, is the LHR - SYD counted as one or two legs of the 4 needed on Qantas metal? (Sorry if already answered in the thread)

Cheers All
Kash
