What are people’s go to accommodation options near AKL when doing a status run?
It depends on how time-poor you are, IMHO. Last in and first out stay at the Novotel; otherwise, Uber into the city opens many options.

Personally, I had a bad experience with the Sofitel due to a total lack of service. However, I would consider the Park Hyatt for my next stay.

Jetpark Hotel Auckland Airport is more expensive then the IBIS but is more comfortable. They have a good bar and restaurant and their free shuttle runs every 30 minutes, or on request (24hrs) after about 11 pm. They can be booked with QF points. I have used it several times.

How was it?

Safe enough walk just after midnight?
From the airport I made the mistake of walking north across the airport car park and ended up getting lost.

I returned to the airport around 5am the next morning using the much easier route via the McDonalds.

I don't recall seeing many, if any, people on the walk there and back. I can't say I felt unsafe at any point. I may have been more concerned making sure I was going the right way.

The hotel itself was typical ibis budget. Woolworths across the road.

I notice that sometime last year, Qantas quietly removed DFW from its defined "East Coast USA/Canada" airports and inserted a to/from DFW definition table. Generally means 20 SC's less for business for travel between DFW and the defined "West Coast USA/Canada" airports.

Yep - and the SC calculator doesn't agree with the DFW table for trips from DFW to the defined "West Coast" destinations such as PHX - the DFW table says 100 SC's for business but the calculator says -

...and most of Alaska's routes to Boise aren't in the SC calculator...

Yeah, I saw that the other day and wasn’t sure how long it’s been there….

If it gives AA as an option, it should be the sam SCs but different points?

But here’s one I prepared earlier (although done as an ORC due to a misconnect from YVR…

I will have to go back and take a look, it was a weird route from somewhere on the west coast to ORD that ITA Matrix threw up - basically you zigzagged from the coast into Boise then out again to I think Seattle then on to Chicago - had potential to be a good SC earner.

I was trying to get to Yellowstone from YVR and BOI on AS via SEA was the cheapest $/SC (by a lot) but we drove from there to YS following the Snake River all the way (well worth it). Then coincidently into ORD from BZN (on AA).

Mr Katie has a status run HBA-xx-NOU and return booked for next month (in J, booked during DSC offer). I'm thinking it'll be a good idea to amend that booking to another routing.

The trick is he's looking for around 550 SCs to maintain WP. (Yes, I know, but he wants status on his own, not just be my arm candy). And his status year ends 31 July. :/

Any suggestions for routes to consider over the coming weekends? I was thinking maybe trying for something to HKG with the RedTail sale??

MEL/SYD<>CNS offers close to the same SCs at 60/70 (Business/Flex Business) that SYD/BNE<>NOU offers at 65/70... but even then, you're looking at total 400-440SCs incl. DSCs for HBA-SYD/MEL-CNS and return, and not 550SCs. Did he already have the 550SCs somehow lined up on the original itinerary to NOU?

Edit: Just thinking it might not be possible to change an international itinerary back to a domestic one. Possibly a cancellation and flight credit will allow it to happen while retaining the same PNR, though? Others might need to comment on that

Cheers.
Matt.

Yes, he had HBA-MEL-BNE-NOU and return booked in J, with positioning flights to HBA.
International and the extra flight length SCs was part of the reason I was thinking of HKG. I guess SIN is the same SCs as HKG by the look of it.

So going from a place of riots to a place where there used to be riots

BKK might be the same as well - it often is.

Bali / DPS is the same as well... and currently about 41% less than Singapore pricing, in the sale... might not be as appealing though

With the JQ changes from today, we've effectively lost JQ Y with Max as a good SC per $ run.

Business max still remains and can be decent earnings at the right price. But alas no more crazy SC earns with cheap JQ deals.

What changes are these? and impacting JQ only I presume?
