DJ Plat recognition on NZ

I think seeing the difference between my experience and kpc's experience, the key might be to book on NZ directly. I did, and was able to allocate an aisle bulkhead seat (10B) which is just behind what I suspect might be crew rests on the 767.

Either that, or there's an inherent service difference between the A320 and 767. I certainly enjoyed having a widebody trans tasman for once!

The check-in lady was hilarious though. She spotted that I was in 10B and said "Oh no, 10B. That's a really bad seat. I have to find something better for you". Then a few seconds later she said "Oh, you're in a 767. That's actually a really good seat!"

There are two reasons to book DJ though. The double SC promo doesn't work if booked on an NZ flight number. DJ are also sometimes cheaper - for example, the $100 return discount that is a regular promo on both NZ and DJ can be booked on DJ as 2 single segments, as their IT doesn't seem to handle the return requirement. This allows for open jaw bookings and also allows booking the return segment in NZD, which often works out cheaper.

I was using my free Amex DJ flight so it had to be a DJ flight no.

To add my experience to this:

I just flew NZ for the first time today, with my DJ Plat number on the booking.

The boarding pass said "DJ-G", but during the flight the CSM came up and welcomed me as a valued DJ Platinum customer - so obviously the status gets passed at least to the manifest! I did get a few strange looks from the man seated next to me who was greeted as a Gold Elite customer - I'm sure he was wondering what this "Platinum" is :mrgreen:

Overall it was a great experience. I'll definitely be flying NZ again!

This is in line with how NZ treat their own elites. For NZ Gold Elite, the boarding pass will say NZ*G, not NZ*GE as in the passenger manifest. NZ has done a good job not doing DJ*G as the * stands for Star Alliance.

On the other hand, my NZ Gold Elite status never shows up on DJ boarding passes. There was one time it showed Velocity Lite. Don't even know what that means. And points never post automatically. Does DJ boarding pass show SQ, DL, or EY status?

You should be able to get a seat in space+ on domestic. Provided that there are seats free, as you can see below my flight just over a month away is almost fill in space+

Edit just booked and came up with the whole plane to choose from......2F - Love that seat, unlimited leg room!

Must admit it is nice to get these extras when flying on a DJ Velocity number.

I think it's worth checking both sites.

A couple of months ago I booked our family ski trip to ZQN, the Air NZ website was cheaper, I could book 6 seats ( couldn't on DJ) and looking at the seat maps it does appear to recognise status as I was able to select seats at the front.
Have yet to try NZ but am looking forward to it. Especially glad I'm not booked on the DJ TT flights as reports on here don't sound very promising.

Unless there's been another double SC promo this year, the one towards the end of last year worked fine for my flights booked from the NZ site.

There is a new one that is currently active, but I was referring to last years one - the T&C maintained that a DJ flight number was required. Our DJ flight number on NZ metal didn't credit bonus SCs until requested, so you did very well to get double status credits booked on an NZ flight number.

Only flown DJ once (and only because of the NZ tie up).. Checked in at CBR - don't recall whether the BP had an indication of status (I might try to find it!) - but the check in agent was very keen to check both my bags without question.. offered me the exit row, and when I asked about taking a guest into the lounge said "Our system shows you as Platinum.. you can take in 5"

A very nice experience all round! (This was on a CBR-SYD-SIN-BKK ticket booked through SQ)

I flew AKL-SYD - DJ codeshare on NZ metal yesterday afternoon on a full flight. I booked DJ as it was quite a bit cheaper IIRC.
Checked in at the kiosk and received 2F .

Before we took off the FA said in a loud voice " Good afternoon Fifa, would you like headphones and a newspaper? And here is an express pass for you to use on arrival in Sydney."
I got quite a few stares and I must have been the only passenger with status on the whole aircraft as no-one else appeared to be approached with the goodies.

The older couple who sat next to me did not have anything to drink for the whole flight - maybe they thought they had to pay for tea, coffee and water or maybe they didn't want to get up to use the toilets but I felt a little sorry for them.

The NZ flight attendants were very friendly and worked extremely hard during the whole flight - very impressive.

Flown twice on VA across the Tasman and (whilst the flights were cough overall) we did get row 3 with a blocked seat in the middle. I am gold and +1 is plat.

Thats where the status ended however, no newspaper, no free drinks, no headphones. cough crews. Boo.

I'm still new to this but does booking directly with NZ on a NZ flight number earn less points than booking with a DJ codeshare with a DJ flight number. I think it is only DJ/ VA and EY flight numbers that have the 100% 75% 50% status bonuses? would this be correct?

Yeah, no bonus on the NZ flight number.

Yeah...we made up the delayed time as well with the tail wind....I got nothing on Air NZ as DJ Plat, but with the time made up, managed to get to the JSH to join the AFF gang for a great steak, and Creme brûlée...despite arriving at Hilton AKL at 10 pm . Great to meet old and new faces! Now for the main event tomorrow...

yup....row 13 is the row behind exit rows. At least got an aisle not at the back; given a newspaper, express arrival, and better earphones....so much better DJ plat recognition than flight over. Back home in Syd, exhausted but great w/e......
