Here's how it worked for me.

* 10 minutes beforehand started querying flights to PQQ over the Easter Long Weekend (have cable modem at home 5mps)
* Opened 3 other screens with the same query and dates ready to hit the enter button at 8.00pm
* To maintain the "session" I kept asking the same query every minute
* STRANGE THING HAPPENED AT 7.55PM - THE 1 C FARES CAME UP ON EVERY SINGLE SCREEN - Early!
* Booked in under 2 mins before the clock struck 8

Pure chance or an early release that Virgin preplanned? (and pre warned staff, stakeholders and media?) Something strange afoot.

My experience would be a rare one, I'd hazard a guess there was a massive meltdown at exactly 8pm

Sounds like you must have been quite desperate to get to PQQ.

Personally, I wasn't in the least bit interested. More of a gigantic hassle than anything else, on a cr*p airline.

And your FF points haul would have been quite modest.

Desperate to a degree; with 2 kids and wife to boot, more dollars going into the mortgage than last year, a $275 in total, 2 night break with kids inc airfare and accom vs a normal special deal coming in closer to $730 for the same thing is something I'll pull out a few stops for.
