Dobbing someone into centrelink.

I know some people have the logic that "we pay far too much tax to the government (which is further fuelled by any perceived or realistic incompetence possessed by the incumbent or previous governments) and get not much in return, so might as well get as much back as we can".

Certainly that is the line used by many to justify signing up for every rebate or handout there is available under the sun; some go further in this regard and start to push at or overstep the legal boundaries.

As the old (albeit maybe silly) question goes, if you had a large family to feed and you were all broke, would you be prepared to steal from a bakery to feed them?

anat0l, I don't think that there is no question that the person mentioned actually does not have 400 children and a crop in the fields. The OP has stated that she has been able to make OS trips and has asked friends to lodge the claim form for benefits on her behalf. Not in need by the sound of it.

I probably should have added that I don't endorse the behaviour as described by the perpetrator mentioned by the OP.

That was just my attempt to try and give a reason that anyone who may perpetrate such behaviour would proffer when asked.

This thread encouraged me to investigate my missing money. Successfully claimed for the 2012/13 year, and have just submitted a claim for the 2013/14 year. Having gone through that process I have to say that centerlink are just as much to blame for any fraudulent claims. I've had to lie to complete the claim. I had to say that both of my children "entered my care" during the financial year. The question: Did a child enter your care? I've had care of them since they were born many years ago, so no they did not enter my care. But if I answer no, suddenly I have to state if I'm the adopted parent, partner of the parent. WTF Centerlink? I'm the biological parent and have always had care of my children.

I'm not even going to get started on the BS information they ask for like the children's passport number. The kid is 10 years old! No! They are not living overseas!

I often wish that forms would say in plain english what they are trying to find out, not in "bureacratese" but in plain english! In your case medhead - were they trying to establish if you had dependant children? or whether you became responsible for additional dependant children? (Such as a blended family situation).

I think both, that was the first question under the "Children" section. "Did the child enter your care?" This is the starting point for the whole section and covers all the possible permutations. Did I have dependent children, did I adopt, did I become responsible for additional children. ButI'm not sure how saying No, they didn't enter my care then makes it valid to ask if I'm the adopted parent etc.

Would have been better to ask "did you have dependent children during the year". Then add another question in the child details asking if they entered care and when.

Anyway, in plain english terms I think I made a false declaration, but at least I got to claim the kids as my own.

All this for $5.88 a fortnight. I'll be able to buy you a beer in a couple of months.
