Does anyone have a Platinum Edge card? At my wits end with AMEX!

Hi all,

Wanting to switch from Amex Qantas Ultimate to Platinum Edge for supermarket/petrol earn. I use ANZ FF Plat for other expenses.

Can someone please confirm for me:
- Is the transfer to Qantas (or Virgin) 1 to 1? I.e. if I spend $1 at Woolworths, earn 3 points into Ascent, can I then transfer 3 points to QFF?
- The bonus points (currently 10,000), after these credit, can they be transferred to QFF at 1 to 1 as well? (i.e. 10,000 bonus QFF points..)

I have searched high and low for answers to these but no answer...sorry if they have been covered somewhere!

You won't be able to transfer points to Qantas with the regular Ascent program attached to the Platinum Edge card - you would need a Platinum Charge Card at a minimum to enable QFF transfers. You can transfer points to Virgin though and they will transfer 1 to 1 - so yes, $1 spend at Woolworths is worth 3 points in Velocity.

Ahh..didn't read the fine print properly! Thanks for clarifying that. Shoots my idea in the foot unless I decide to split my earn between Virgin/QFF...

Be further aware that the amex Plat Edge has had its earn for Government (ATO and whatnot), insurance and utilities reduced to 0.5 points / dollar.

Having said that, for $149 a year (and many got it for 99$), you get a free DJ return domestic flight, 2 points/$ on petrol, 3 points/$ on supermarkets plus some bonus points to start and the flexibility of MR points earn. I'll almost certainly keep mine for another year and I only use it for supermarket and fuel (everything else goes on a Velocity Plat Amex at 1.5/$)

Has anyone managed to cancel Amex Plat Edge or Reserve Credit card, but with the free flights or hotels already redeemed from Amex, but have not been used yet? I have free hotel stays in October, and free flight redeemed for sometime next year but I want to cancel both cards by mid next month.

The ATO is now also charging 1.45% fee for Amex (since August 1st). Not sure what the fee was before that but it really doesn't look worthwhile for .5 pts per $1
