I've just booked a DOH-MEL-ADL J redemption on Velocity, without realising that it's on the same plane, involving a 7+ hour technical layover in MEL from 10.30pm until 5.40am the following morning where I want to just get off and nix my last segment to ADL!

There are no redemptions available to MEL otherwise on the days that I want.

So is it possible for me to get off at MEL without facing severe negative consequences? Otherwise should I cancel the flight and look for other options - such as a whY redemption?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is plenty of discussion on Flyertalk about this.

In practice with carryon only as an Australian/NZ passport holder you’ll have no issues. With a different passport you may have immigration issues and with a bag airline issues.
