On view my booking, 'select seats' now enables domestic flights to have pre-allocated seating - although not a great range of seats to choose from!

This may still be in early stages - hopefully some tweaks will occur over the next few days to improve seat selections for premium/ Altea valued pax.

Cool.

A flight on a ZX I have in June gave me seating options for almost the entire main cabin. Unavailable were rows 23 and 24 (mini cabin) and exit row (43).

Nice to see, but you're right - far from perfect.

A few J flights I have I can't get row 1, but the rest is fair game.

As for Y flights, I can't get row 4 or 5. I'll play my chances at OLCI.....

I was able to select row 2 in J and the front row aisle of whY on a 763.

Also on a stupid o'clock to MEL on monday I can get 25B and 6C on the way home. Rows 4 and 5 on the way home were blocked out.

Not sure I could have had better selections.

OK,

On all domestic flights I have, all seats in the first two rows of economy and exit rows are blocked out. With Business class, row 1 is blocked.

I can select from ANY other seat in the booked cabin as a WP. Early days I guess as other have not yet taken their opportunity.

I will test it out on a SYD-MEL flight coming up next month - I have selected row 6 aisle on a 73H as rows 4 and 5 are blocked. Will try to improve forward as the flight approaches.

Further info: The bookings I have, including the one pictured above, were made when I was SG - maybe that accounts for the high number of blocked seats.

This is exactly what I'm seeing for my upcoming domestic flights - as an example, on a B738 service MEL-BNE, everything is available in whY except rows 4, 5, 13 and 14. I imagine there might be a difference for CLs?

EF can't pull up seat maps for domestic flights yet unfortunately.

So what happens if you don't pre-select your seat? Will QF look after their higher tier passengers by automatically allocating a decent seat?

It did for me - have you entered your QF FF number into the EF preferences page?

Oho! Well spotted. I hadn't, and it's now working just fine after I entered it in. :)

Interestingly, it also shows 9A and 9F on a B738 as q-blocked (yet those seats are available to me for pre-selection when I check MMB).

So, it would appear that domestic seat maps are only available in E/F if you have QF status.

That made all the difference ...

(I typically don't have my QFF number in my E/F profile as I can get a better interpretation of seat availability that way.)

I was offered any seat row 5 or beyond, except exit rows 13/14, on a 737. That is with my AA EXP number in the booking.

EF (using my QF Gold number) shows rows 4 and 5 bocked. 6AB & EF, 9A & F blocked and exit rows available.

Similar answer in that Rows 6 and back (except exit) were all available on the 73 series.

Interesting that Rows 23 & 24 were not available on the 76 aircraft.

I don't think this should be an issue. Before this I was preallocated a seat based on their arcane rules. I could then check in and shuffle my seat. Now if I don't preselect I would expect that I will just get a seat that would have been in my original options bucket when I did OLCI.

I don't expect that WP will be punted to the back of the bus due to this.

Argh - I switched to QFF as my seat selection on QF with my AA EXP number was awful. So tempted to switch back as I should be able to hit EXP with travel this year. Decisions decisions...

I'm not sure if this is new or not, but I was also able to select my seats on my BA flights from LHR to VIE return, for my April trip.

Its great, I have now pre-selected seats for the entire trip:
MEL-SYD - 2B on a 737
SYD-LHR - 12F on A380 (Yay, first time on the 380 :))
LHR-VIE - 2C on A320
VIE-LHR - 4D on A320
LHR-MEL - 16B on 744 (not the 380, but at least my fav J seat on a 744).

Now all I have to wish for is an F op-up or 2 and I will be a very happy QFF'r :D. Even without an op-up, still very happy being able to pre-select seats all the way ;).

Interestingly as a QP PS I am not able to select seats on my upcoming PER-ADL flight, in fact the 'Select Seats' button which used to allow you to chose aisle or window seat is missing altogether. I note all respondents in this post have been SG or higher, perhaps its for higher status pax only at this stage?

I was able to select seats on my BA flights (one F and one CE) last November (QF F Classic Award).

I am even able to select a seat on my CX flight which was booked through QF portal using QF MMB.

My other CX flights were booked through the CX portal, so can't select seats for them through QF MMB but CX MMB of course has no troubles.

As SG, I noticed the following:

- 767 - rows 23-29 blocked, entire cabin available from row 30 onwards.
- 330 - rows 23-32 blocked, entire cabin available from row 33 onwards.

Would be keen to see what's available on the 738s.
