Domestic seat selection now up and running

On all domestic flights I have, all seats in the first two rows of economy and exit rows are blocked out. With Business class, row 1 is blocked.

I can select from ANY other seat in the booked cabin as a WP. Early days I guess as other have not yet taken their opportunity.

This is exactly what I'm seeing for my upcoming domestic flights - as an example, on a B738 service MEL-BNE, everything is available in whY except rows 4, 5, 13 and 14. I imagine there might be a difference for CLs?

I'm another WP seeing exactly the same thing.

I'm a PS, and have just been able to request seats that I couldn't a few days ago. BNE-SYD and SYD-BNE (with LAX-DFW-SFO-LAX in between, and already selected and able to be changed) in late April/early May. Don't know if it's the NB or QP NB I'm travelling with, or my PS, but on my BNE-SYD QF513 leg, row 39 was the first row available for selection in whY, everything more forward in the cabin was blocked. QF512 on return, row 20 was the first row available to me. Now have seat assignments for all legs. :)

I was able to select seats on my BA flights (one F and one CE) last November (QF F Classic Award).

I am even able to select a seat on my CX flight which was booked through QF portal using QF MMB.

My other CX flights were booked through the CX portal, so can't select seats for them through QF MMB but CX MMB of course has no troubles.
Thanks, I usually fly into FRA and then intra-Europe on LH, so did not know if this was a new feature or not.

As a PS with a few 737 flights coming up with a couple of non-QFF members (haven't checked if they're -400s or 800s yet), I get a lovely choice of seats from about row 20 back. Still, better than nothing I guess!

Interestingly as a QP PS I am not able to select seats on my upcoming PER-ADL flight, in fact the 'Select Seats' button which used to allow you to chose aisle or window seat is missing altogether. I note all respondents in this post have been SG or higher, perhaps its for higher status pax only at this stage?

I'm getting exactly the same he select seats button has disappeared for me as QP PS. I even did a new booking to day just to check and the select seats button is missing. Did a quick search of qf website for seat selection and it says that I should be able to select in an FAQ.

Weird. Good luck to those that can select.

As others have mentioned cannot choose QantasLink.

On Wed night I got an aisle in row 9 SYD-CBR and then next week for a MEL-CBR nothing in front of row 13.

Be interesting to see how it pans out and if pax with status are pushed back too far.

Oh no, not again.

So what happens if you don't pre-select your seat? Will QF look after their higher tier passengers by automatically allocating a decent seat?
I won't pre-select seats for domestic flights so it will be interesting to see how much further back I can get moved in the cabin.

Given that all WPs (on this thread - not a bad testament) can't access the first two rows of Y on an aircraft, that implies to me that these seats will be Altea-allocated upon OLCI kicking in. If you're high enough status, you might get those seats.

If there are a lot of WPs on a flight, there might be a good chance that you won't get a row 4 or 5 seat (assumed 737 equipment here) and if you haven't preselected, you might just get a seat many rows back. Bummer.

OTOH, if you select a seat before OLCI (which is obviously going to be row 6 or further), your choice will not change when OLCI kicks in (you'll need to move yourself to a row 4 or 5 seat if you can get at one; the abbreviation ASAP never meant more to you than now! - no puns intended)

Traps and zaps.......

I'd be interested if there are any CL's lurking to confirm if they get access to all seats or the same blocked seats keep coming up for them as mentioned by other PL.

I was able to check with a CL account this afternoon (not mine, sadly!) and yes, they're able to select rows 4 & 5 on 737s, and rows 23 and 24 on the 767s.
There were no domestic business bookings on the account to check for row 1 availability, but it seems likely that's the case.

edit: forgot to say exit rows are definitely still blocked though.

As an update I have a SYD-BNE J booking that I preallocated today into 2C tomorrow. I am just doing OLCI and still can only select row 2 back.

As another point of interest these seating changes now flow through to the "My flights" app on the iPhone. Previously once I OLCI'd the seats did not appear on the "My flights" app.

As SG, I noticed the following:

- 767 - rows 23-29 blocked, entire cabin available from row 30 onwards.
- 330 - rows 23-32 blocked, entire cabin available from row 33 onwards.

Would be keen to see what's available on the 738s.

As SG with a dom Y booking on an A330 I concur - first 10 rows blocked. Hopefully an early OLCI will sort that out.

Take heart JohnK. There was a WP on here not long ago who was lamenting some dodgy seat allocations, only to turn that around with a bumber run of op-ups. Now who was that.......? ;)

Ditto as SG. I've got about 10 767 flights booked and they're all showing the same, -30 blocked out, 30+ wide open.

Generally on half of those flights I'm allocated 24/25/26 at checkin anyway so its no gain.

A similar tale for me as AA Plt. Even on first MEL ADL flight I can only select from row 11 back. Usually I'm allocated around row 7. Though the flight is really getting packed again so maybe they will expand the timetable back to the early 2008 levels.

i fly between Sydney and Melbourne on a weekly basis (K) - I get seats allocated on rows 23-26 on a consistent basis - irrespective of checking in online or at the airport. 95% of the time i get allocated D or F and often no one sits in E.

I always pick a 767 (& recently A332) due to lack of overhead bin space on the 737.

Interesting again.

Just on my J flight SYD-BNE this evening row 1 is blocked. Of the remaining seats I have 2C and 3D is blocked.

This would imply to me that row is booked for higher value or CL pax (I am on a K class + points upgrade) and that the rest of J is empty...

Simon,

IME FF redemption tix and points upgrades negate your WP status for seating.

SYD-PER paid J 1A everytime, SYD-PER FF J row 4 or 5 both A333/A332.

YMMV.
