BC has extended the special rate of 1.8% till 20th July.. surprise surprise

Great news on BC rates. Hopefully it might even be a sign of things ongoing? Picked up almost 2m points in June, haven't bitten the bullet yet for points to credit though, goes against everything I've had ingrained in me...

yes was a tough trigger to pull for me as well.... but I did pull the trigger!

so anyone know any big wigs at AMEX?? ask them to extend the double points past 20 July please.

They really ought to given there is no hope of using most of the benefits of this card as well as a reduction in published benefits without notice (inability to use concierge for restaurant booking and removal of using the travel credit for booking experiences).

i am wondering how much everyone is putting through monthly during the promo? Mine is 10 time’s more than my usual spend

Mine has been double.

If anyone has found a way to buy Forex with the Amex (not with Amex Forex services) pm me please

Mines a massive factor more. Mainly because I didn't didn't tend to spend on this card at all as the QF Ultimate Amex have me a slightly better earn rate (chasing QF points). I only tended to use the Platinum card for flights when I wanted the insurance. Now all my Amex spending has shifted to this card, so given no flights were being purchased spending is up by a large factor. However in terms of dollar amount it's a pittance compared to what some people here are able to put through it.

I was at Woolies Double Bay Sydney yesterday and tried to buy a couple of Perfect EFTPOS cards for $500 (couldn't find any Only 1 Visa cards >$100). They refused to sell me more than one given the fraud alert they got re government payments. I tried to point out I was aware of it and I hadn't been approached by fraudsters and actually want the cards of my own free will. They wouldn't sell them to me. Some people follow the rules to a T without thinking about it.

You realise that even if you wanted Qantas Points, you'd earn more if you used the Platinum card on your purchases but then waited for a transfer bonus to QFF?

For instance, Plat Charge normally earns 2.25 MR points per $1, which after a 2:1 conversion is 1.125 Qantas points. Ultimate earns 1.25, but if you transfer from Platinum when there's a bonus running (like the 25% offer last month, you get even more). 1.125 + 25% = 1.406 Qantas points earned per $1.

(That's when the earn rate is normal, of course, and you'd earn more points on Qantas flight bookings etc via Ultimate, but that's for everyday spend. Different if you always need the points in your account ASAP, I guess, but more rewarding if you can wait for a bonus.)

That makes sense. Up until last month you needed to earn at least 500k QF points to get that earn rate. Otherwise I think it was a 15% bonus, which still does give a slightly higher rate, but at the mercy of a bonus offer. However, you've raised an excellent point here.

Edit: The other advantage of the approach you've mentioned is they're not tied to QF until I need them to be.

Wonder with this lag in points posting,

how would the points earned from next Friday till 20th post accurately

Shame the promo is nearly over already. Is the critical date when points post of when you’ve made the charge? Guess to use the points to redeem against charges, they have to have posted first.

I'm trying my best to do the big ones by 15th then I can redeem them all by 20th..

Fingers crossed Amex extend

I'm going all out with my requests for amex to extend.
Asked Steve Hui from iflyflat to ask him amex contacts, have also asked my contact at bluechain to ask their amex rep.. lets see haha

Yeah, that's a good point about the minimum transfer threshold to get the best bonus.

I don't often convert mine to QFF (much more useful to me in programs like KrisFlyer), but I now tend to transfer enough points to QFF every year to get across the line for Points Club membership, the main benefit of Points Club being that you can earn status credits on Qantas flights booked using points. The only thing to watch is that for Points Club, you need 150k points per year, but Qantas only counts up to 125k points per earning transaction (so if you transfer 150k in a single block, it's only 'recognised' as 125k in Points Club). Of course, when QFF has a transfer bonus going, the bonus credits separately after the transfer, and those bonus points are also counted towards the 150k - so if you transferred a lot, that would probably get you over the line.

QFF has some good redemption options that are tricky via other programs (and I like that QFF has most of its reward flight options online so that you don't need to call), but the other MR transfer partners have their advantages too, and it's certainly nice having that flexibility - except for QFF for Points Club, I only really transfer out of AMEX once I'm ready to book something, having checked award availability and points needed, etc.
