I'm off to the car dealer's on the weekend where there is only a 1.5% AMEX surcharge - hope they are fixed shortly
yes was a tough trigger to pull for me as well.... but I did pull the trigger!
so anyone know any big wigs at AMEX?? ask them to extend the double points past 20 July please.

i am wondering how much everyone is putting through monthly during the promo? Mine is 10 time’s more than my usual spend
You realise that even if you wanted Qantas Points, you'd earn more if you used the Platinum card on your purchases but then waited for a transfer bonus to QFF?Mines a massive factor more. Mainly because I didn't didn't tend to spend on this card at all as the QF Ultimate Amex have me a slightly better earn rate (chasing QF points). I only tended to use the Platinum card for flights when I wanted the insurance. Now all my Amex spending has shifted to this card, so given no flights were being purchased spending is up by a large factor. However in terms of dollar amount it's a pittance compared to what some people here are able to put through it.
You realise that even if you wanted Qantas Points, you'd earn more if you used the Platinum card on your purchases but then waited for a transfer bonus to QFF?
For instance, Plat Charge normally earns 2.25 MR points per $1, which after a 2:1 conversion is 1.125 Qantas points. Ultimate earns 1.25, but if you transfer from Platinum when there's a bonus running (like the 25% offer last month, you get even more). 1.125 + 25% = 1.406 Qantas points earned per $1.
(That's when the earn rate is normal, of course, and you'd earn more points on Qantas flight bookings etc via Ultimate, but that's for everyday spend. Different if you always need the points in your account ASAP, I guess, but more rewarding if you can wait for a bonus.)
That makes sense. Up until last month you needed to earn at least 500k QF points to get that earn rate. Otherwise I think it was a 15% bonus, which still does give a slightly higher rate, but at the mercy of a bonus offer. However, you've raised an excellent point here.
Edit: The other advantage of the approach you've mentioned is they're not tied to QF until I need them to be.
